Broad Bean & Tahini Hummus

I may have mentioned that I'm not a three-square-meal-a-day person. I'm a five-to-seven-meal-a-day person! I get bored easily, especially with food, so I'd rather have small portions and lots of variety. No wonder I'm a fan of Chinese Dim Sum, Mediteranean Meze and Spanish Tapas :)
*

I admit, this hummus is an acquired taste! You'll need to like broad beans and tahini, which is a sesame paste usually found in the oriental food section in the supermarket. But that's the fun of it all, trying out new food...and who knows, you might love it :)

Here's how it goes:

Defrost beans slightly. Cook beans in 100 ml salted water until done (about 7 - 8 min.). Drain well. Peel and chop garlic clove. Wash and chop parsley - leave some for decoration later. Put drained beans, garlic, parsley, juice of one lime, tahini into a mixing bowl. Season well with salt, pepper and a pinch of sugar. Add about 1 TbSp olive oil. Purée this mixture until smooth. I like my hummus thicker - like a spread - but if you like yours thinner, simply add 1 - 3 TbSp cold water and keep mixing. Spoon into bowls, decorate with parsley and serve with spicy taco chips. Yum!
*

So geht's:

Dicke Bohnen leicht antauen. Guten Appetit!

p.s. I recently won those cute little bowls in mint from bloggy friend Karin. Thank you so much :)
Ganz lieben Dank :)

Wordless Wednesday [Almost]

DuniStudioDesign

A couple of weeks ago this photo made it to the front page of Etsy! I didn't even need to travel far, simply stepped outside the house and took the shot :) Thank you Lana for curating this amazing treasury!
*

Monday Moodboard

Again, no particular theme this Monday. This board just kind of came together intuitively. I guess I'm drawn to feathers, gold, mint green and...old doors :)
*

Summer Jewelry

Hello there, lovelies!               Hallo, ihr Lieben!

In the summer months I tend to wear a lot more jewelry. I wear mostly handcrafted jewelry from my favourite shops on Etsy, but I also enjoy designing and creating my own pieces! I made a boho style necklace with turquoise and gold beads and an antique finish silver feather charm as well as a turquoise statement ring. I've combined my necklace with my silver infinity necklace.
*

Although this post is about my jewelry, my gold sandals deserve a special mention! I know that some of you have admired these sandals on my instagram already :) I've always had problems with my feet, so buying shoes, especially sandals has always been a tedious affair. But these sandals are the best fitting and most comfortable pair I have ever owned. Score! Plus they are in trendy gold and even better, entirely vegan. I was going to get another colour but unfortunately it seems this style is sold out. I found a similar pair here.
*

Have a wonderful day!
Habt einen wunderschönen Tag!

City Trip [Berlin]

Spontaneously taking a trip up to Berlin, capital of Germany, is a big deal for me - I'm not a spontaneous person. I like to plan things way in advance. Nevertheless, at the beginning of this year I promised myself to add some spontaneity to my life! In hindsight, maybe it wasn't such a good idea after all...more on that later.
*

We arrived pretty early. After a quick breakfast we hit the streets. Little did we know that it was the day the German soccer team arrived back. Apparently a huge event was planned later that morning around the Brandenburger Gate. And there I was wondering why I was seeing a lot of people wearing DFB T-shirts and assorted fan paraphernalia :)
*

Of course, no trip to Berlin in complete without a visit to the famous KaDeWe shopping center. Check out this building's interesting history that starts in 1905.
*

Hey look, primary colours! * Schaut mal, Primärfarben!

Some you probably recognize the following photo from my instagram, but I had the most delicious sweet potato fries in this lounge. Wish I had ordered a second portion :)
*

A Keith Haring sculpture taken through a dirty bus window.

After a bit of sightseeing and shopping everything went pear-shaped. Without going into too much detail, let's just say it involved an ambulance, a hospital and a. l o t. o f. b l o o d. It was a scary experience and naturally our visit was cut short. This just goes to show that sometimes things happen when you least expect and for which you are not prepared. I'm just amazed we stayed pretty calm through the ordeal.
*
Sehr. viel. Blut. Tja, solche Dinge kommen immer unverhofft. Natürlich haben wir die Reise abgebrochen. Aber keine Sorge, alles ist wieder gut.

I don't think I'll be taking any spontaneous trip anytime soon... Anyway, thanks for reading along. Hope you have a wonderful day!
*

Monday Moodboard

These last couple of days have been exceptionally hot with temps of 95°F. Hey, I'm not complaining, I think it's great! At last I can wear tank tops and flip flops and the tomato plant has sprouted some tiny green tomatoes finally. Let's celebrate summer today!
*
Hallo Sommer!

Sesame Carrot Appetizer

If you like munching on carrots here's a great vegan appetizer for you to try!
*

How to:
Peel carrots and steam in some vegetable stock until done (about 20 min.). Do not overcook, they should still have some crunch. Transfer to serving dish and keep warm. In a pan heat 3 - 4 Tbsp. olive oil, add sesame seeds and stir until fragrant, add cinnamon, 2 Tbsp. agave syrup, chopped dried apricots and figs and stir. Season with salt and pepper. Pour mixture over the carrots. Garnish with slices of lemon and serve with wholewheat toast.
*
Dazu: Vollkorntoast.

Enjoy!
Guten Appetit!

Ricky Raccoon Rucksack

Hello lovelies!            Hallo, ihr Lieben!

A while ago I received some new bag making supplies from leading German button and accessories manufacturer Union Knopf. I've been wanting to make a nifty little backpack, and had a great time choosing webbing, zippers and buckles. My backpack is adapted from one of talented Christine's designs. She has plenty more bag patterns to choose from in her Etsy shop.
*

For my main fabric I chose this super cute raccoon print in aqua, lime and grey. I chose 2.5 cm wide cotton webbing for the straps and the loop at the top, and 2.5 cm nylon webbing for the side pockets and the loop on the inside. I haven't come across see-through buckles before, but thought they looked great on the side pockets. The large snap hook on the inside is meant to hold a keychain. I wasn't sure whether the plastic hook would withstand opening/closing a lot without breaking, but it is surprisingly durable. The nylon webbing is very flexible and the needle passes through it easily, but it is not as soft as the thicker cotton variety. I used matching teal snap buckles for the adjustable straps. The company provided zippers available by the meter. I chose the lime one and simply cut it to the size I required and attached the matching zipper pull. I like that the zipper pull had a large hole suitable for attaching a pretty ribbon or a charm. Overall I'm impressed by the range of colours from bold to neutral. There are also several widths availble. Find out more about these products by clicking on the link below:

I'm pretty pleased with how the backpack turned out! Its compact size and multiple pockets inside and out makes it the perfect bag for a stroll through town, fitness class or a weekend trip! Speaking of trips, next week I'll be gone a few days, visiting friends and generally slowing down a little...I'll catch up with you by the end of next week, though!
*

Strawberry Greek Yoghurt Parfait

Hello friends!              Hallo Mädels!

The weather has warmed up enough to make me crave something cold for a change :) Since I'd bought a whole punnet of strawberries I decided to make a strawberry parfait with Greek yoghurt.
This is simple to make with few ingredients. You will need 6 - 8 little dishes suitable for the freezer.
*

How to:
Wash strawberries and pat dry. Set aside a couple for decoration. Cut about 100 gr strawberries into tiny pieces. Blend the rest with the sugar. Strain half of the purée into a bowl and set aside for later. Mix the othe rhalf with Greek yoghurt. Beat cream until stiff, add chopped strawberries and mix with yoghurt mixture. Pour into the dishes and place in freezer for about 4 hours.
Remove 20 min. prior to serving to defrost the parfait a little. Serve with the strawberry purée and garnish with remaining strawberries.
*
Und so geht's:
Erdbeeren waschen und trocken tupfen. Ein paar zur Dekoration beiseitelegen. Ca. 100 g Erdbeeren in kleine Stücke schneiden.

Monday Moodboard

I hope my US readers enjoyed their long weekend! I'm kicking off my moodboard for July with this month's birthstone: Ruby. This gem comes in a variety of reds, from pinkish red to vivid dark red and maroon. It is said to arouse the senses and stir the imagination...:) Whatever qualities it may have it is definitely an exquisite gemstone!
*

Flower Sugar & Polka Dots

Hello, happy Friday and happy "4th of July" to my US friends :)
I have a different kind of fireworks on my blog today - an explosion of colour! These small scale prints have newly arrived in my fabric shoppe. Aren't they sweet, nostalgic...simply adorable? Polka dots are one of my favourite prints, because they are so versatile. They work equally well combined with solids or florals. They also make fun lining fabrics. I have eight colours to choose from!

These fabrics are from the Color Basic range. They are premium quilting quality cotton, 44 inch wide. The dots measure 1/8" or 1/4" and are either off white on solid colour or multi-coloured like the one above :)
*

Thank you for stopping by today! Wishing you a fantastic day!
*
Freut mich, dass Ihr wieder vorbeigeschaut habt! Ich wünsche Euch einen schönen Tag!
