Flower Sugar & Polka Dots

Hello, happy Friday and happy "4th of July" to my US friends :)
I have a different kind of fireworks on my blog today - an explosion of colour! These small scale prints have newly arrived in my fabric shoppe. Aren't they sweet, nostalgic...simply adorable? Polka dots are one of my favourite prints, because they are so versatile. They work equally well combined with solids or florals. They also make fun lining fabrics. I have eight colours to choose from!

Hallo, und Happy Friday! Einige meiner lieben LeserInnen freuen sich bestimmt schon auf den heutigen Fußballabend :)
Unterdessen freue ich mich über meine neue Stofflieferung! Nostalgische Rosendrucke und Polkadots...Punkte gehen immer, oder? Die lassen sich wunderbar mit Unis oder gemusterte Stoffe kombinieren. Ich verwende sie sehr gern als Futterstoff. Acht Farben habe ich zur Auswahl!

These fabrics are from the Color Basic range. They are premium quilting quality cotton, 44 inch wide. The dots measure 1/8" or 1/4" and are either off white on solid colour or multi-coloured like the one above :)

Diese Stoffe sind aus der Color Basic Kollektion. Das sind feine, hochwertige Baumwollstoffe, 110 cm breit in Patchworkqualität. Es gibt sie mit 4 mm oder 5 mm Pünktchen in Naturweiß auf Uni oder Multicolor, wie oben :)

Shop News!

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned I would be adding a limited edition of rose-themed jewelry to my Peridot line. For the longest time I deliberated upon the designs, but finally came up with what you see below. This collection comprises dainty rose posts that come in sets of three and rose pendant necklaces. That's it! I might add a few different colours that go with the clothing :) The components are .925 sterling silver, while the earring backs are surgical steel (titanium).

Vor einigen Wochen hatte ich erwähnt, dass ich meine Peridot Linie um eine kleine Schmuckkollektion in  limitierter Auflage erweitere. Nach langer Überlegung sind nun Sets mit Rosenohrsteckern und zarte Silberkettchen mit Rosenanhänger entstanden. Alle Stücke sind von mir handgefertigt und bestehen aus 925er Sterling Silber bzw. Chirurgenstahl (Ohrstecker). Eventuell nehme ich noch weitere Farben ins Program, aber ansonsten bleibt es bei dieser Auswahl.

*Note - the solid silver arrow bracelet is a one-off! I had some cable link chain left and it would've been a shame not to make use of it!

*Anm. - das Silberarmband mit Pfeil ist ein Einzelstück! Ich hatte noch etwas von der Silberkette übrig - gerade genug, um daraus noch ein Teilchen zu fertigen!

I know that most of my readers associate me with florals, pastels and girly things - and you're spot on! I simply love it, however, there is a part of me that also likes graphic art, stark contrasts and repetitive patterns found in nature...and in respect thereof I've found another creative outlet on my newest selling site Society6. Never gets boring over here :)

Ich bin mir durchaus bewusst, dass die meisten meiner Leser mich mit Blümchen, Pastellfarben und Girly Dinge assoziieren. Es stimmt, ich liebe solche Dinge einfach! Dennoch mag ich auch gerne starke Kontraste und repetierende Muster, welche man z.B. in der Natur findet. Or you could make fun kitchen accessories, aprons and so much more! Honestly, I can't wait to get my hands on these - I'll reveal what I'll make with these in a future post :)

Für alle NäherInnen unter Euch habe ich etwas ganz Besonderes! In Kürze erhalte ich eine super süße Kollektion bestehend aus fünf Retro-Stoffen in Rot (siehe oben). Sehr hübsch für Platzsets, Tischläufer, Schürzen, Topflappen und...und...und. Ich kann's selber kaum erwarten diese in den Händen zu halten. Tausend Ideen schwirren schon in meinem Kopf herum! Was ich daraus machen werde zeige ich Euch in einem späteren Post :)

Thinking even further ahead :) I chose some charming pastel roseprints for springtime! In the sewing world it's important to plan and make items in advance! If you're into soft, shabby chic style then you will certainly love these! They come in a blue, pink and green colorway.

Vielleicht mag es dem einen oder anderen Leser zu früh sein, doch ich denke - was die Stoffkollektionen betrifft - jetzt schon an Stoffe für das Frühjahr 2014 :) So habe ich mich für diese charmanten, pastellfarbenen Rosendrucke entschieden! Wer den romantischen Shabby Chic-Stil mag, wird diese Kollektion ganz sicher lieben! Die Stoffe mit verschiedenen Rosenmotiven und Vichykaros gibt es in einer zartblauen, zartrosa und zartgrünen Farbgebung.

Taking a deep breath after a pretty hectic week. Meanwhile, the windows for my new studio have arrived! I don't think I ever mentioned on my blog that the renovation included new windows, did I? Plus I'm preparing for a huge fabric shipment to arrive the first week of May. I always get excited when new fabrics arrive...but Petal...is heavenly! I had a preview at the trade fair in March. Gorgeous stuff, I tell you, but see for yourself:

Bin wieder da und muß erstmal tief durchatmen nach der doch recht hektischen Woche. In der Zwischenzeit sind die Fenster für mein neues Studio eingetroffen! Ich glaube ich habe Euch das gar nicht erzählt, dass ich neue Fenster bekomme, oder? Nun, deswegen dauert die Renovierung auch ein bisschen länger als geplant ;-) Außerdem erwarte ich im Mai eine Riesenlieferung neuer Stoffe. Ich bin schon ganz aufgeregt, denn von der Petal habe ich bereits im März eine Vorschau gesehen...und hach...die Kollektion ist einfach traumhaft. Aber seht selbst:

Make an Advent Calendar - Adventskalender DIY

 

Here's another fun way to use up fabric scraps. Make your own reusable advent calendar!

Dies ist ein einfaches DIY für einen wieder verwendbaren Adventskalender aus Stoffresten!

You'll need // man braucht

fabric scraps / Stoffreste

narrow ribbon / schmales Band

paper tags / Papieranhänger

0-9 numbered stamps / 0-9 Stempel

stamp ink / Stempelfarbe

Plus the usual tools required for sewing:

sewing machine, scissors, thread, fabric marker, pins

Und die üblichen Werkzeuge, die man für's Nähen benötigt:

Nähmaschine, Schere, Garn, Stoffmarker, Nadeln

How to:

*I suggest starting with the tags first. That way the assembly later on will be easier.

Punch out 24 small tags and stamp on the numbers. Punch holes in the top and set aside.

1. on a piece of stiff paper draw a rectangle 6 " x 4 " - this is your template for the pouches. Use your fabric marker and draw around the template on your choice fabrics. Cut 24 pieces and iron.

2. *see suggestion above.

3. to make an easy-peasy casing for the ribbon cut a notch on each side 1" down from the top edge and 1/4" in. Fold flaps toward the wrong side and iron.

4. Cut 24 pieces of ribbon to the length of 10 ". Fold down edge twice to the wrong side, iron and insert ribbon. Edge-stitch along fold being careful not to stitch ribbon by mistake.

5. Fold in half, right side in. Pin and sew up bottom and side using a narrow seam. Back-stitch each end.

6. Turn right side out, fill with sweeties, thread ribbon through tag and tie. Repeat for the remaining bags!

Und so wird's gemacht:

*ich schlage vor die Papieranhänger zuerst zu machen - die gehen schnell und später braucht man sie nur noch auf das Band zu fädeln. 24 Stück ausstanzen, lochen und mit den Zahlen bestempeln.

1. Ein Rechteck der Größe 15 cm x 10,5 cm auf ein Stück Papier zeichnen. Ausschneiden. Dies ist die Vorlage für die Beutel. Mit dem Stoffmarker 24 x auf Stoffreste zeichen. Ausschneiden und bügeln. 

2. *siehe Vorschlag oben.

3. Für den super einfachen Durchzug ca. 2,5 cm vom oberen Rand und 0,5 cm an beiden Seiten einschneiden. Nach innen umschlagen und bügeln.

4. Band in 24 Stücke schneiden je 25 cm lang. Obere Kante doppelt einschlagen, bügeln und Band einsetzen. Knappkantig absteppen, dabei darauf achten nicht das Band mitzufassen.

5. Zur Hälfte falten, rechte Seite innenliegend. Mit Nadeln feststecken und unteren Rand sowie die eine Seite schmal absteppen. Alle Nähte mit Rückstichen sichern.

6. Auf Rechts drehen, mit Kleinigkeiten füllen, Anhänger auffädeln und zubinden. Die restlichen Beutel genauso nähen!

I repurposed a card holder to hang the pouches from, but they would look equally nice on a tray or stuck on a pinboard. Try out a few versions and see which one you like best!

Ich habe einen Kartenhalter zweckentfremdet und die Beutelchen daran aufgehängt. Natürlich kann man sie auch schön auf einem Tablett arrangieren oder an eine Pinnwand stecken. Wie ihr möchtet!

Fill with sweets, chocolates and other goodies!

Mit Bonbons, Schoki und andere Kleinigkeiten befüllen!

It took two afternoons to sew all the pouches. Assembly was a matter of minutes. I've seen calendars that have consecutive numbers, but I mixed mine up to make it more fun finding them on that day :) - and that's usually how these calendars are sold over here. I've been receiving one from my Mom since I was little and I just love the countdown to Christmas!

Die Beutel waren an zwei Nachmittagen fertig genäht. Der Rest ging ganz schnell. Die Zahlen sind natürlich alle durcheinander, damit es mehr Spaß macht - ich habe schon Kalender mit fortlaufenden Zahlen gesehen - wie langweilig. Ich liebe Adventskalender und bekomme auch heute noch jedes Jahr von meiner Mutter einen geschenkt :) Der Countdown bis Weihnachten finde ich einfach toll!

Friday Favourites

Just when I was getting used to the mild temperatures and sunshine (and loving it), the weather's gone all rainy and windy and cold again today. The birds don't seem to mind. They are still happily chirping in the tree beyond my studio window. Oh, and did I mention that magpies are building a huge nest up in the tree in front of the bedroom window? Since I get up pretty early I usually watch the magpie female collecting nesting material. Fascinating. I must say I do love bird watching!

So today's feature is all about birds...

Ach wie schade das es heute wieder regnet - ich hatte mich schon an die milden Temperaturen und Sonnenschein gewöhnt! Den Vögeln scheint es nichts auszumachen, denn die zwitschern immer noch fröhlich im Baum vor meinem Arbeitszimmerfenster. Hab ich schon erwähnt, dass ein Elsterpaar ein Nest ganz oben im großen Baum vor unserem Schlafzimmer baut? Als Frühaufsteher beobachte ich gern wie das Weibchen fleißig Äste sammelt. Das heutige Thema ist den Vögeln gewidmet!

Und noch mehr Vögel gibt es bei mir im Lädchen! Kleiner Hinweis: ich beteilige mich an der aktuellen 12% Rabattaktion, die noch bis zum 5. April bei Dawanda läuft.

Roses & Ribbons

Hi there!   Hallo ihr Lieben!

The good news is a batch of gorgeous romantic fabrics arrived in my little fabric shoppe the other day. I got all excited because they actually look even better in person! The bad news is my sewing machine broke down (which my newsletter readers already know), so I was only able to create a single new lounge pant. I love the way it turned out though. Girly details like a ruffled fully-lined back pocket and pink crochet lace ties are what makes these romantic pants so special! See more pictures here. Those who love Cath Kidston and Laury Ashley will definitely love these - the difference is they are handmade with love ♥

 

Ich freue mich immer so sehr wenn eine neue Ladung Stoffe im Lädchen eintrifft, besonders wenn es romantische, mit zarten Rosenmotiven bedruckte Stoffe wie die obigen sind! Ich bin nun mal eine romantische Seele. Leider hielt die Freude nicht lange an, denn meine Nähmaschine wollte ganz abrupt nicht mehr nähen...(meine Newsletter Leser wissen dies ja bereits). Glücklicherweise habe ich es noch rechtzeitig geschafft ein neues Design umzusetzen. Das Besondere an dieser Wellnesshose ist nicht nur der traumhafte Stoff, es sind mädchenhafte Details wie die gerüschte Tasche auf der Rückseite sowie das pinkfarbene Bindeband aus Häkelspitze. Mehr Fotos hier. Diese Hose ist sicher etwas für alle die Cath Kidston oder Laura Ashley mögen, mit einem Unterschied - sie ist mit Liebe von Hand gemacht ♥

So, I'm desperately waiting for the return of my beloved sewing machine. I'm sure I'm driving the repair men crazy by calling them every two days ;-)

Nun warte ich händeringend auf meine Nähmaschine, die momentan in der Werkstatt ist. Bestimmt treibe ich die Techniker oder Mechaniker oder wie immer die Menschen heißen, die Nähmaschinen reparieren zum Wahnsinn mit meinen Anrufen. hihi ;-)
