Sophie's Roses & Hearts

Hello lovelies!     Hallo, ihr Lieben!

For the longest time I wanted to add tableware to my shop, but it's proven to be a challenge in more ways than one. My sourcing took many months. Of course, I could have jumped on the bandwagon and ordered the popular Danish brand often referred to as GG on social media, but after extensive research I found that the European market is oversaturated with this brand. Also, I did not fully agree with their trade conditions. Besides, I'm someone who naturally goes against the flow :) I wasn't going to give up that easily, so on I searched. When I first came across Sophie Allport, it felt as if I was guided to do so. Sophie is a graphic artist with a first class honor's degree specializing in illustration. I fell in love with her delicate pink roses and heart designs on the spot! Before starting her own business Sophie worked as an illustrator for books and magazines in London. She now works out of her countryside home in Lincolnshire which she shares with her husband and three boys. I love the fact that it's a family run business with her brother taking care of the business end leaving Sophie free to focus on design and product development.

Just to clarify, the tableware is fine bone china, not pottery. The items are hand decorated and finished in Stoke-on-Trent in England, a town famous for several porcelain manufacturers. The items come in a smart 100% recyclable gift box perfect for gifting. The china is microwave safe and perfectly safe to wash in the dishwasher too - provided the temperature is set to fine china. Nevertheless, to keep the china from looking its best I recommend to wash by hand after use and to not use scouring pads and / or abrasive detergents. As with all fine china, it is advisable to not subject it to extreme temperature changes.

Sophie has plenty of designs available, but the roses and hearts theme seems to fit my personal and shop aesthetic nicely :)

I have listed most of the items I received in my first shipment. Please note due to the nature of the items I will be sending orders containing fine bone china registered and insured, so the shipping costs will be slightly higher - all the more reason to purchase more than one piece. I, for one, am very pleased with the design and quality of these items. And coming from a super discerning person that's saying something :)

Happy Friday!

Monday Moodboard

At this time of year stately homes open up their gardens to the public, and like most people I love meandering among the roses. Whether shrub, climbing or hybrid tea roses - they are all pleasing to the eye and their fragrance is divine. The lovely earrings in dark rose handmade by Sharla of BeadedTail inspired my moodboard today!

1 -- 2 -- 3 -- 4

Roses & Ribbons

Hi there!   Hallo ihr Lieben!

The good news is a batch of gorgeous romantic fabrics arrived in my little fabric shoppe the other day. I got all excited because they actually look even better in person! The bad news is my sewing machine broke down (which my newsletter readers already know), so I was only able to create a single new lounge pant. I love the way it turned out though. Girly details like a ruffled fully-lined back pocket and pink crochet lace ties are what makes these romantic pants so special! See more pictures here. Those who love Cath Kidston and Laury Ashley will definitely love these - the difference is they are handmade with love ♥

So, I'm desperately waiting for the return of my beloved sewing machine. I'm sure I'm driving the repair men crazy by calling them every two days ;-)

Last but not least a big welcome to my lovely new readers Birgit and Mel! Thanks for joining!

Best wishes,
Liebe Grüße,

Another Rose Fabric :)

As mentioned in this post  roses feature heavily in my fabric stash! When I source fabrics - either while traveling or on the net - I frequently get a hunch when I spot 'my' fabric, and I have learned long ago to act on that hunch. The next time I look it might be sold out or I might never pass by that store again -  so I seize the moment! Whenever I fall in love with a certain fabric I buy atleast a meter, even when I have no idea what to use it for. I know that I will be inspired to create later down the road just by looking at it :)

So it was with this new fabric that arrived yesterday. It's from Heather Bailey's new Kissing Booth collection and is called Hello Roses. I chose the cream, but it comes in green and pink colourways along with coordinating basics too. The fabric is quilting quality and is very soft to the touch. Since the scale of the pattern is quite large it's perfect for interior decorating, such as a bedspread and a set of pillows or even curtains. Believe it or not, for once I'm not going to be using it to make a bag!

Have a beautiful day!

Taupe Roses Fashion Bag

When I stock up on fabrics I tend to gravitate to rose prints. They seem to be popular as there are a multitude of rose-themed fabrics out there to choose from, so I always have to remind myself not to buy up the entire range ;-)
Nevertheless, one or two rosy prints always sneak in to my shopping bag along with unusual, graphic and strong prints that I think might look good made into bags. I recently finished another fashion bag using a very large rose print in a mellow taupe on a soft blue background, which doesn't show particularly well in the photo. You just have to trust me that this print really is lovely :) I was lucky to find a polka dot fabric that matched the roses perfectly. This I used to embellish and strengthen the corners as well as the lining. I sourced a pair of slim handles in a cognac brown which I think go well with the two main colours. These I stitched on by hand which, considering the solidity of the front and back panel, was quite a challenge!

Rosy Wristlet

Anyone who has been to my Dawanda shop will know that I love fabrics with rose prints! This romantic wristlet is made from two toning fabrics - a soft rose linen and a bold pink rose print. It is fully lined with a fine pale pink cotton. The strap is embellished with a sweet flower trim. The size is perfect to carry the bare essentials - house keys, credit card, compact and cell phone. Alternatively it can be used as a make-up bag. Use the strap to hang on a hook, if you haven't got much space in your bathroom! Hope you all had a pleasant Easter. Now it's back to work for most of us! Until next time ☺

Shabby Chic & Sweet

Dainty pink all-over roses on a baby blue background teamed with a fresh pink check. I added a bit of old-fashioned cream lace for that 'shabby' look, and a cute flower-shaped button.

Sweet & Romantic

This cute bag is made of 100% cotton featuring a sweet rose print. The lining is a pastel pink cotton check. The bag is softly padded and embellished with a cute gold heart on the front. Keep all your personal items in here, or your jewelry, or your hair accessories etc. Measures approx. 19.5 cm x 10 cm - perfectly sized to fit in your handbag. All my bags are unique, I rarely make two of the same, so if you really want this bag - be quick. It's in my shop and it's the only one available!

Rosie baby blue zip pouch

I finished this yesterday and it's available in my DaWanda shop here. This pattern is very cute and romantic. For the little princess in you...

A few more cute bags...

Cute 'Rosie' baby blue zip pouch is already on its way to sunny California for my friend L. I have similar bags in my shop. Each is individually handsewn and features a variation of patterns and embellishments. Measures approx. 15 cm x 12 cm. The 'Rosy dots' make up bag is a custom order for a close friend. The front pocket is handy for keeping combs and nail files. This bag is pretty & romantic.

Orange Dots

Roses and dots are two of my favourite fabrics. I buy them in all variations. This convenient, little purse can be used for make up, as a pencil case or for keeping sewing notions. It measures approx. 19.5 cm at the widest point and is 10 cm high. It is lined with a funky orange mini-vichy and is stabilized with soft interfacing. I have embellished it with a tiny gold heart on the front. I find this purse so practical and not so bulky, that I keep one on my vanity, on my desk, in my bag, and in the glove compartment of my car! I sew these regularly as birthday presents and my friends love them just as much as I do! You can buy this purse here

Tote Bag

I finally finished this custom-made tote bag for M.W. I normally specialize in smaller purses and make up bags, but M wanted something large enough to carry A4-type files and notebooks in. This bag measures approx. 30 cm x 35 cm x 8 cm - the perfect size for anything A4, plus it has two pockets for a wallet and mobile phone on the inside. It can be easily carried over the shoulder; the straps are padded for extra softness and are not too long - which is usually a problem for someone smaller than the 'average' 1.68cm. The top part of this bag is a gorgeous rose fabric in sugar pink and red from the Tilda series. It is stunning and a real eye-catcher. I teamed it with a rich, dark chocolate brown. The lining is a crisp pink and white stripe. As a final touch, I embellished it with a little 'strawberry' button. I will be making something similar in different colour variations soon, but for now I'm focussing on smaller bags...besides I have my translation work to take care of, too, and there just isn't enough time for bigger projects at the moment. More's the pity...

Red Roses purse

This purse is made from the 'rose garden' series from Westfalenstoffe, one of my favourite patterns. I have used the red/white combination and a funky red/white striped lining. I have also used heavy-duty interfacing to retain the shape of the purse. It measure about 20cm in width. All fabrics by Westfalenstoffe are 100% natural cotton, no synthetic resins or formaldehyde. Colours are non-toxic. This design or similar will be available in my online-shop soon. Just need to finalize, work out some kinks and set the whole thing up! Bear with me...
