Cosmetic bag/Sponge bag in brown-pink

I have not made this shape of bag in a long while - until I found this gorgeous ornament print in brown-pink. This fabric reflects my new website colours perfectly. This sponge bag is perfect for traveling. The tall shape and slightly narrower bottom will keep your bottles and tubes all lined up in a nice row without tumbling over. It is fully lined with a coordinating pink mini-polka dotted fabric and interfaced for stability. The icing on the cake is the button from my personal Vintage collection. I love this button and I'm so happy it matches the main fabric perfectly.
If you look closely, what animal is hiding at the bottom?

Green Trees

The last few days it has been decidedly chilly in the mornings...the short summer that we've had is quickly slipping away, making way for rough winds, rain and the turning of leaves. I'm trying to cling on to the summery feeling a little longer, and perhaps that is what I have expressed in this new make-up bag :) I will miss you so, lush green trees and chirpy birds!

New make up bag and other stuff :)

Dawanda, my selling venue, informed me via email this morning that they have revamped the products page. I immediately went and checked. The images are definitely larger now and so is the text - thanks Dawanda, for being so considerate towards us myopic people :) The whole page looks a bit more pulled together and all relevant icons are clearly visible. Great job. Just one thing - when you click on one of my products there's a banner that says my product is 'customizable'. Well, it is to an extent, but when there's only one of it, what you see is what you get.
Meanwhile, all my sleep masks have been sold, but one (see image). I'm trying hard to sew some more, but with my arm/wrist/hand in constant pain it's easier said than done! I have finished another make up bag using a print that may be familiar to you now; this one's in pink/cream. The trim that embellishes the front pocket is called 'Sakura' and is a limited edition!

Lavender Dreams

Apparently I'm in a 'lavender' phase at the moment. I also realized it's been ages since I made one of my standard make up bags, and there was just enough fabric left of this beautiful lavender fabric with the script print! I'm quite fond of fabrics that have script or interesting lettering on them, even if it's total gibberish! Here's an anecdote I'd like to share: Back when I was still working in the city, I lived in a cute apartment in an art-nouveau house with huge windows. I had decorated the windows with nice cream curtains that had fine gold script on them. I noticed my hubby (boyfriend back then) was staring at them quite intently, but didn't think much of it. A couple days later we met up again and out of the blue he asks me what "(he recites the script)" means. I laughed and said, it doesn't mean anything, it's just the design! Hahaha. I guess the hubs is all for logic, while I go for aesthetics. ps - click on the image to get a close-up view of the charming rosebud-button. This was a real find, and I'm happy that I finally got to use it!

Miss Japan

A while ago some of you wanted to see what the darker version of the trim that I bought looked like. Truth is, it took me ages to match up this dark grey ribbon. I knew I wanted a bold colour to go with it, but not too colourful. And I certainly didn't want to use any fabrics containing grey. Then I came across the Japanese flag and it hit me! A red/white combo of course, hence the name 'Miss Japan'. The red was bold enough to counterbalance the dark grey of the trim; mixed with white it didn't overpower it either. I had a hard time finding the polka dot fabric - mostly you get reversed colours, i.e. white dots on bright red. But I wanted the trim to be the eye-catcher, not the red colour. I was so glad when I stumbled upon this mini polka-dot fabric. There is a slight discrepancy of the reds, but since the eye is drawn to the whimsical trim, I don't think one notices. I like the way it turned out, and although the fabrics aren't Japanese, I do think this bag has a Japanese feel to it, don't you?

Kaffe Fassett make up bag

Kaffe Fassett is a well-known textile designer, innovative knitter, quilter and author. His first book 'Glorious Knitting' was the first knitting book ever to make it on the bestseller list. Born in San Francisco in 1937, he went on to study at the renowned School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and in 1964 moved to London where he now works and resides. He is the first living artist ever to have been invited to exhibit at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. He has a distinctive style, and the fabrics he designs are cheerful and explode with colour. In fact, Kaffe Fassett is all about colour. His colour-combinations are inspired by nature's wealth of colours, oriental ceramics and paintings. The jumpers he designs for Rowan Yarns may contain up to 60 colours! It's truly amazing. I used one of Kaffe Fassett's fabrics for this new make-up bag. As you can see it's colourful and just the right thing to brighten up a dreary winter's day. I altered the shape, so that more of your make up and other essential utensils may fit inside! I am also offering to ship this bag 'flat-packed' to reduce the postage. I got this piece of valuable advice from my blogging friends rkdsign88 and The sewing mom. I've alerted my customers to this alternative type of shipping in my shop and I hope it will help to increase sales.

Another make up bag

According to my January statistics on Dawanda (my selling venue here in Germany), this Asian inspired make up bag has received the most views ever! It's been 'pinned' by eleven buyers, so I wonder who the lucky one will be that actually buys it! It's the only one I made. I made it specifically to match the large tote bag with bamboo handles I made in December. Yesterday I received a parcel containing the same type of trim I used on this make up bag, but in a different colour variation: instead of the turquoise blue, the new trim is dark grey with bright pink flowers. This afternoon I will go through my fabric stock to see which will work best with this new trim. I hope I won't fall asleep at my sewing machine, because I didn't sleep a wink last night....I never do when we have a full moon.

Seabreeze

Just when I thought to go ahead with a purse using pinks and violets I sold this:
I've had this stored in my cupboard for quite a while now and I'm really glad it's found a new owner, because the fabric is gorgeous. Lovely swirls and paisleys in blue variations mixed with ivory and tan. Reminds me of the sea. The inside is lined with a small, all-over paisley pattern in tan. I've used this for the loop at the side too. I am going to wrap it up nicely now, ready to take to the post office!

Hot Fuchsia

The vibrant colours on this make up bag take me back to when I was 10 and visiting Hawaii. The first thing I saw were the plentiful exotic flowers - I'm a 'colour' person. I also remember I was given a cute Hula Dolly that wore a Hawaiian flower Lei in the exact shade of fuchsia as this bag! The other thing I will never forget is eating a whole bag of fruit gums and drinking iced tea...all of which later ended up on the hotel's bathroom floor (I didn't make it to the toilet in time) ☺ Maybe that's one reason I don't eat fruit gums anymore? I love the colour fuchsia, though, and tend to accessorize my wardrobe in this colour. I have scarves, hats, gloves, earrings in this colour. Nothing brightens up a grey November day more than fuchsia!

I was really happy when Damask Rose the big one sold within a week of listing! The lucky recipient will love this bag. I have since made another one in a different colour way. This is one of my favourite bag styles, because it's roomy enough (but not bulky) to keep more than just your make up - you can fit in all those face and handcreams, too!

Orange Dots

Roses and dots are two of my favourite fabrics. I buy them in all variations. This convenient, little purse can be used for make up, as a pencil case or for keeping sewing notions. It measures approx. 19.5 cm at the widest point and is 10 cm high. It is lined with a funky orange mini-vichy and is stabilized with soft interfacing. I have embellished it with a tiny gold heart on the front. I sew these regularly as birthday presents and my friends love them just as much as I do! You can buy this purse here
