Paris in black & white

On my recent Paris visit I mainly wanted to soak in the culture and spend time with my friend. Of course I did take along my DSLR, but on this occasion I refrained from being "click-happy" and simply took photos of things / scenery I believed to be especially pretty. This has resulted in a small collection of black and white photos, which I hope transmit that certain  je ne sais quoi flair that is Paris :)

Neulich, in Paris wollte ich vor allem die Kultur genießen und eine schöne Zeit mit meiner Freundin verbringen. Natürlich hatte ich meine Spiegelreflex dabei, aber dieses Mal habe ich darauf verzichtet wild loszuklicken und nur dann Fotos gemacht, wenn ich etwas als besonders malerisch und schön empfand. Enstanden ist eine kleine Sammlung von Schwarz-Weiß-Fotos, die, so hoffe ich, das gewisse französische Flair vermitteln :)

Back home :)

Hello friends! I'm back home and trying to catch up with work, blogging and laundry :) Thank you for your kind comments to my previous post. So glad you liked my little ideas!
On the first day of my holiday I was greeted by the most beautiful of sunny days and blue skies. People were out in droves, eating ice cream and sun bathing on the banks of the river. I took a long walk there and found it very relaxing.

Hallo Mädels! Ich bin wieder da und der Alltag ist (leider) wieder eingekehrt ;-) Vielen Dank für Eure so lieben Kommentare zu meinem letzten Post. Freut mich sehr, dass Euch die kleine DIY Idee gefallen hat :) Der erste Tag meiner Ankunft war herrlich warm und sonnig. So einen blauen Himmel hatte ich lange nicht mehr gesehen! Mein Spaziergang entlang des Ufers war richtig erholsam.

Before I continue I just wanted to mention that before I got to the relaxing part of my holiday I once again had seat issues on the plane (this happens to me regularly on trains and planes regardless of whether I booked a seat in advance or not). Anyway, there was a woman in my seat when I got there, and likewise another person was sitting in the first woman's seat. So the three of us played musical chairs while the row behind us got longer and the people in it irate... actually I saw the funny side of it, but nobody was laughing ;-)

Bevor ich weiter erzähle möchte noch etwas loswerden. Bei (fast) jeder Reise, egal ob Flugzeug oder Zug, gibt es Probleme mit dem Sitzplatz - und dass, obwohl ich grundsätzlich vorab reserviere. Jedenfalls, es saß eine Frau auf meinem reservierten Platz. Gemeinsam haben wir nach dem (ihren) richtigen Platz gesucht, aber komischerweise saß da auch schon jemand...tja es folgte ein schräges Spiel von "Reise nach Jerusalem" - zum Ärgernis der Reihe hinter uns...eigentlich musste ich schon fast lachen ;-)

What I love about my mom's city are the lovingly restored mansions which were not completely  destroyed in the war as well as the baroque architecture. The city is famous for its opera house, its art college and school of music. In fact, my great uncle was a concert pianist, who passed shortly after I was born. I would have loved to have gone to one of his recitals.

Was ich an dieser Stadt so mag ist die barocke Architektur und die liebevoll restaurierten Villen, die im Krieg nicht völlig zerstört wurden. Die Stadt ist für ihre bemühmte Oper bekannt, aber auch die Kunsthochschule sowie die Musikschule sind nennenswerte Einrichtungen. Mein Großonkel, der kurz nach meiner Geburt verstorben ist, war Konzertpianist. Sehr gerne wäre ich an einem seiner Klavierabende dabei gewesen.

I enjoyed two glorious days of sunshine. Then all of a sudden the weather turned nasty with heavy rains and hail the size of cherries! Good thing there are plenty of cozy cafe's to choose from to while away the time with delicious coffee and cake :)

Zwei Tage lang hatte ich traumhaft schönes Wetter. Am dritten Tag dann heftiges Gewitter mit Hagel so groß wie Kirschen! Aber zum Glück gibt es viele schöne Cafés wo man es sich bei einer Tasse Kaffee und lecker Kuchen gemütlich machen kann, während es draußen gießt :)

The rest of the time I spent at my mom's place, looking through old photo albums, reminiscing and playing with my mom's cat Sumi. The week was over way too quickly!

Die übrigen Tage habe ich bei meiner Mutter zuhause verbracht. Wir haben uns alte Fotos angesehen, viel erzählt und mit Sumi, der Katze meiner Mutter gespielt. Die Woche war viel zu schnell vorbei!

I love this yellow mailbox! You don't see this kind very often, especially not where I live now. Below is a detail of a large fountain. Of course, I was on the lookout for some cool doors. I got lucky and found this amazing green door :)

Den Briefkasten finde ich toll! So einen sieht man selten; wo ich wohne schon mal gar nicht. Unten seht Ihr ein Teil eines alten Springbrunnens. Und natürlich musste ich nach schönen Türen Ausschau halten - diese grüne Tür ist doch ein schönes Exemplar, oder?

Believe it or not, this is my mom's pet crow :) He sits there in the tree right across from the kitchen window every morning waiting for the nuts and seeds that he loves. Sometimes he's really brave and eats them straight off my mom's hand, which is unusual as crows don't normally approach humans!

Ob Ihr es glaubt oder nicht, diese Krähe ist zahm und hier sitzt er (oder sie) morgens wie immer  im Baum vor dem Küchenfenster und wartet auf seine Ration Nüsse. Manchmal ist er ganz mutig und pickt sie sogar aus der Hand (meiner Mutter)!

I arrived back home to thunderstorms and heavy rain - what else?! But I was happy to see that the peonies in the garden are just starting to bloom. Yay! Also, Leo was waiting for me in his usual spot. He didn't seem to mind me being gone for a whole week and acted the same as always for which I'm grateful! Anyway, I hope to catch up with you all this week and looking forward to reading your blogs. Thanks for stopping by and have a beautiful day :)

Zuhause angekommen gab es (wie soll es auch anders sein) Gewitter und Regen! Aber dafür blühen die Pfingstrosen gerade. Ein wunderschöner Anblick. Freu! Mein Freigänger Leo hat scheinbar gar nicht bemerkt, dass ich eine ganze Woche weg war - er begrüßte mich wie immer und war auch nicht ängstlich. Da war ich sehr erleichtert :) Jedenfalls freue ich mich schon die nächsten Tage wieder bei Euch vorbei zu schauen und hoffe, dass ich nicht zu viel verpasst habe! Habt einen wunderschönen Tag :)

I've only been building my portfolio about three months ago, so I'm really thrilled about this :)

Ich hatte mich heute morgen gewundert wieso ich so viele Zugriffe zu meinem 2. Etsy Shop hatte. Das liegt daran, dass mein "Regenbogen Foto" auf der Front Page gezeigt wurde! Da ich erst vor ein paar Monaten angefangen habe mein Portfolio aufzubauen freue ich mich natürlich sehr :)

Just a quick hello

Hello friends!            Hallo Mädels!

Unforseen circumstances have tripled my workload. The next few days I will need to put in as many hours as possible, maybe even a couple of night shifts just to catch up! All the nice posts I had planned for my blog will have to wait, I'm afraid. I won't have time to visit any blogs and log into social media sites either, or do any of the other stuff I normally do. I don't think I'll be leaving the house, other than to drop of packages at the post office. Please understand and I hope you'll still stick around when I do eventually come up for air ready to blog again :)

Unvorhergesehene Umstände haben mein Arbeitspensum verdreifacht. Die nächsten Tage werde ich viele Stunden arbeiten, eventuell sogar ein paar Nachtschichten einlegen müssen. Dabei hatte ich schöne Posts für meinen Blog geplant...das alles muss nun leider warten. Ich fürchte ich werde keine Zeit haben, Blogs und andere soziale Medien zu besuchen, geschweige denn die vielen anderen Dinge machen, die ich normalerweise mache. Bitte habt Verständnis dafür und seid mir nicht böse wenn ich mich die nächste Zeit nicht blicken lasse...es geht nun mal nicht anders. Ich hoffe stark, dass ich bis Ostern fertig bin und sich mein Arbeitsalltag wieder normalisiert. Ich sag einfach bis dann :)

Hallo, ihr Lieben! Die Frühjahrs Rabatt Aktion bei Dawanda läuft noch bis zum 6.04., also wer noch Material benötigt, nichts wie hin :) Da noch eine Menge Arbeit auf mich wartet, muss ich mich heute wieder kurz fassen - ich bitte um Verständnis! Hi there, lovelies!
As some of my regular readers may know I have recently begun selling fine art photos in my second Etsy shop as well as photographic products on Society6. Prior to opening my shops I researched the legal situation of selling photography. The rules and regulations may differ from country to country (and there are plenty), so I've compiled a list of information which seemed the most important here:

► In Germany there is the so called "freedom of panorama". Commercial photos are allowed of permanent art, monuments and landmarks, such as the Berlin Wall as long as it's from a public access point during day time. The same holds true for the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris, however, night-time photos of the tower are NOT allowed, since the light display is copyrighted. You will need to get a special permit from the company that owns the tower.

► obviously it is NOT allowed to take photos of military and energy facilities as well as air and seaports. If you are in a private property or government building you'll need permission from the owner to photograph (i.e. inside a shopping mall, museum, library etc.)

► there are a few restrictions for using a tripod (typically inside malls, train stations or subways where there is a lot of foot traffic) plus it is NOT allowed to photograph through a window looking in (such as photographing window displays or someone's living room). Again, you'll need special permission from the owner!


►  street scenes including people: allowed for commercial use if the people aren't recognizable, however, if the photo includes people facing the camera and clearly visible, then it is best to ask their permission first, to avoid getting a cease-and-desist warning.

► obviously it is NOT allowed to photograph anywhere/anything there is a sign that says "no photography allowed" (you wouldn't believe how many people ignore this!)

Hallo, Ihr Lieben!
Einige meiner Leser wissen, dass ich vor einiger Zeit Fotodrucke in meinem zweiten Etsy Shop sowie Fotoprodukte bei Society6 verkaufe. Vorab hatte ich mich zu der rechtlichen Lage informiert, denn da gibt es jede Menge zu beachten! Zum Glück kann man in Deutschland (fast) bedenkenlos Kunstwerke, Gebäude und Skulpturen ablichten, insofern diese auf öffentlichen Plätzen stehen und permanent sind. Hier gibt es die sogenannte "Panoramafreiheit". Wichtig ist, dass man das Foto aus einer zugänglichen Strassenperspektive macht und nicht aus einem angrenzenden Gebäude heraus fotografiert! Dagegen nicht erlaubt sind Fotos von vorübergehend ausgestellten Kunstwerken. Bei Strassenszenen bin ich immer vorsichtig. Lieber fotografiere ich menschenleere Orte, als später eine Abmahnung zu bekommen, weil da ein deutlich erkennbares (fremdes) Gesicht im Vordergrund zu sehen ist!
