Back home :)

Hello friends! I'm back home and trying to catch up with work, blogging and laundry :) Thank you for your kind comments to my previous post. So glad you liked my little ideas!
On the first day of my holiday I was greeted by the most beautiful of sunny days and blue skies. People were out in droves, eating ice cream and sun bathing on the banks of the river. I took a long walk there and found it very relaxing.

Before I continue I just wanted to mention that before I got to the relaxing part of my holiday I once again had seat issues on the plane (this happens to me regularly on trains and planes regardless of whether I booked a seat in advance or not). Anyway, there was a woman in my seat when I got there, and likewise another person was sitting in the first woman's seat. So the three of us played musical chairs while the row behind us got longer and the people in it irate... actually I saw the funny side of it, but nobody was laughing ;-)

What I love about my mom's city are the lovingly restored mansions which were not completely  destroyed in the war as well as the baroque architecture. The city is famous for its opera house, its art college and school of music. In fact, my great uncle was a concert pianist, who passed shortly after I was born. I would have loved to have gone to one of his recitals.
*

I enjoyed two glorious days of sunshine. Then all of a sudden the weather turned nasty with heavy rains and hail the size of cherries! Good thing there are plenty of cozy cafe's to choose from to while away the time with delicious coffee and cake :)
*

The rest of the time I spent at my mom's place, looking through old photo albums, reminiscing and playing with my mom's cat Sumi. The week was over way too quickly!
*

I love this yellow mailbox! You don't see this kind very often, especially not where I live now. Below is a detail of a large fountain. Of course, I was on the lookout for some cool doors. I got lucky and found this amazing green door :)
*

Believe it or not, this is my mom's pet crow :) He sits there in the tree right across from the kitchen window every morning waiting for the nuts and seeds that he loves. Sometimes he's really brave and eats them straight off my mom's hand, which is unusual as crows don't normally approach humans!
*

I arrived back home to thunderstorms and heavy rain - what else?! But I was happy to see that the peonies in the garden are just starting to bloom. Yay! Also, Leo was waiting for me in his usual spot. He didn't seem to mind me being gone for a whole week and acted the same as always for which I'm grateful! Anyway, I hope to catch up with you all this week and looking forward to reading your blogs. Thanks for stopping by and have a beautiful day :)

Herbstzeit & Tirol

Hello lovelies!         Hallo, ihr Lieben!

I finally got round to displaying some Fall decorations around the house. I wanted to have those white baby boo pumpkins that are so popular these days - no such luck, they were all sold out beginning of September! So I cheated a little to get the look. I found these inexpensive ceramic ones in a home decorations store. Yay me :)
*

Herbstzeit means Fall season. In my neck of the woods it also means rain, rain and more rain, wellingtons and windbreaker jackets - no wonder most people, me included, prefer to stay indoors.
*

As mentioned in a previous post we'll be travelling to Tyrol tomorrow to attend a wedding and also have a mini-vacation. I still have to pack my clothes, most importantly my walking boots, as the little family-owned hotel we're staying at is up on a mountain.
*

A warm welcome to my wonderful new readers. So happy to have you reading along!
Well...I'd better get going, still need to wrap up some business issues and did I mention I still need to pack?! We'll be back on Friday. Take care everybody, have a great week and see you then!

Macht's gut!

Ahhh...this is the life!

Hi everybody! After our gruelling flight (thank you, Erika, for advising me to keep my shoes on) and battling jet-lag for two days, hubby and I are finally beginning to relax... It's a glorious 30°C with a mild breeze. Perfect. Nessa wrote I should be getting a nice tan! I'm trying, I really am, but I burn easily, so I've got to slap on the SPF50! Yes, I hear you, Frances :) Today we decided to take a break from the sun and enjoy a traditional afternoon tea. The pastries and scones were soooo delicious, but even though they were dainty we couldn't finish off the tray. We were so stuffed! I tried the white tea, which I have never tasted before. It was superb: mild and fragant. Oh yes - we could get used to this :) This weekend we have some sight-seeing planned, and well... more relaxing! See you next week!

Bye Bye for now...

We're all packed and ready to go! I can almost smell the ocean...just a 2 hour train ride and a 12 hour flight and we're there. It's been ages since I last swam in the ocean, and I must admit I had a hard time finding my bathing suit! I finally found it crumpled up in the back corner of one of my drawers. The hubs will need to buy a new pair of swimming trunks over there, because no way am I going to allow him to wear his old pair from the 80's! Haha. As a compromise he gets to take along his laptop...so he won't be cut off from the outside world entirely! Plus I get to keep up with your blogs every now and then too - don't want to miss the action :) The difference is I'll be reading up on your blogs lying on a sun-drenched beach slurping a cocktail. bye bye, take care everyone...
