8 Yummy Vegetarian Recipes

After transitioning to becoming a vegetarian foodie I've been on the lookout for tasty yet easy to cook veggie dishes. My favourite online site is Yummly, an easy to navigate site with some mouth-watering food photos. Even if you're not a vegetarian you might like to check out these delicious recipes :)

Seit ich auf vegetarische Kost umgestellt habe, bin ich immer auf der Suche nach leckeren und in der Zubereitung einfachen Veggie Gerichten. Meine Lieblingsseite im Internet ist Yummly - mir gefallen die ansprechenden Food Fotos und außerdem ist sie gut zu navigieren. Hello friends! I'm back home and trying to catch up with work, blogging and laundry :) Thank you for your kind comments to my previous post. So glad you liked my little ideas!
On the first day of my holiday I was greeted by the most beautiful of sunny days and blue skies. People were out in droves, eating ice cream and sun bathing on the banks of the river. I took a long walk there and found it very relaxing.

Hallo Mädels! Ich bin wieder da und der Alltag ist (leider) wieder eingekehrt ;-) Vielen Dank für Eure so lieben Kommentare zu meinem letzten Post. Freut mich sehr, dass Euch die kleine DIY Idee gefallen hat :) Der erste Tag meiner Ankunft war herrlich warm und sonnig. So einen blauen Himmel hatte ich lange nicht mehr gesehen! Mein Spaziergang entlang des Ufers war richtig erholsam.

Before I continue I just wanted to mention that before I got to the relaxing part of my holiday I once again had seat issues on the plane (this happens to me regularly on trains and planes regardless of whether I booked a seat in advance or not). Anyway, there was a woman in my seat when I got there, and likewise another person was sitting in the first woman's seat. So the three of us played musical chairs while the row behind us got longer and the people in it irate... actually I saw the funny side of it, but nobody was laughing ;-)

Bevor ich weiter erzähle möchte noch etwas loswerden. Bei (fast) jeder Reise, egal ob Flugzeug oder Zug, gibt es Probleme mit dem Sitzplatz - und dass, obwohl ich grundsätzlich vorab reserviere. Jedenfalls, es saß eine Frau auf meinem reservierten Platz. Gemeinsam haben wir nach dem (ihren) richtigen Platz gesucht, aber komischerweise saß da auch schon jemand...tja es folgte ein schräges Spiel von "Reise nach Jerusalem" - zum Ärgernis der Reihe hinter uns...eigentlich musste ich schon fast lachen ;-)

What I love about my mom's city are the lovingly restored mansions which were not completely  destroyed in the war as well as the baroque architecture. The city is famous for its opera house, its art college and school of music. In fact, my great uncle was a concert pianist, who passed shortly after I was born. I would have loved to have gone to one of his recitals.

Was ich an dieser Stadt so mag ist die barocke Architektur und die liebevoll restaurierten Villen, die im Krieg nicht völlig zerstört wurden. Die Stadt ist für ihre bemühmte Oper bekannt, aber auch die Kunsthochschule sowie die Musikschule sind nennenswerte Einrichtungen. Mein Großonkel, der kurz nach meiner Geburt verstorben ist, war Konzertpianist. Sehr gerne wäre ich an einem seiner Klavierabende dabei gewesen.

I enjoyed two glorious days of sunshine. Then all of a sudden the weather turned nasty with heavy rains and hail the size of cherries! Good thing there are plenty of cozy cafe's to choose from to while away the time with delicious coffee and cake :)

Zwei Tage lang hatte ich traumhaft schönes Wetter. Am dritten Tag dann heftiges Gewitter mit Hagel so groß wie Kirschen! Aber zum Glück gibt es viele schöne Cafés wo man es sich bei einer Tasse Kaffee und lecker Kuchen gemütlich machen kann, während es draußen gießt :)

The rest of the time I spent at my mom's place, looking through old photo albums, reminiscing and playing with my mom's cat Sumi. The week was over way too quickly!

Die übrigen Tage habe ich bei meiner Mutter zuhause verbracht. Wir haben uns alte Fotos angesehen, viel erzählt und mit Sumi, der Katze meiner Mutter gespielt. Die Woche war viel zu schnell vorbei!

I love this yellow mailbox! You don't see this kind very often, especially not where I live now. Below is a detail of a large fountain. Of course, I was on the lookout for some cool doors. I got lucky and found this amazing green door :)

Den Briefkasten finde ich toll! So einen sieht man selten; wo ich wohne schon mal gar nicht. Unten seht Ihr ein Teil eines alten Springbrunnens. Und natürlich musste ich nach schönen Türen Ausschau halten - diese grüne Tür ist doch ein schönes Exemplar, oder?

Believe it or not, this is my mom's pet crow :) He sits there in the tree right across from the kitchen window every morning waiting for the nuts and seeds that he loves. Sometimes he's really brave and eats them straight off my mom's hand, which is unusual as crows don't normally approach humans!

Ob Ihr es glaubt oder nicht, diese Krähe ist zahm und hier sitzt er (oder sie) morgens wie immer  im Baum vor dem Küchenfenster und wartet auf seine Ration Nüsse. Manchmal ist er ganz mutig und pickt sie sogar aus der Hand (meiner Mutter)!

I arrived back home to thunderstorms and heavy rain - what else?! But I was happy to see that the peonies in the garden are just starting to bloom. Yay! Also, Leo was waiting for me in his usual spot. He didn't seem to mind me being gone for a whole week and acted the same as always for which I'm grateful! Anyway, I hope to catch up with you all this week and looking forward to reading your blogs. Thanks for stopping by and have a beautiful day :)

Zuhause angekommen gab es (wie soll es auch anders sein) Gewitter und Regen! Aber dafür blühen die Pfingstrosen gerade. Ein wunderschöner Anblick. Freu! Mein Freigänger Leo hat scheinbar gar nicht bemerkt, dass ich eine ganze Woche weg war - er begrüßte mich wie immer und war auch nicht ängstlich. Da war ich sehr erleichtert :) Jedenfalls freue ich mich schon die nächsten Tage wieder bei Euch vorbei zu schauen und hoffe, dass ich nicht zu viel verpasst habe! Habt einen wunderschönen Tag :)

Pastel Roses + Tante Ema ® + Tutorial

Hello lovelies!            Hallo, ihr Lieben!

This is my last post before I leave, but there's plenty to check out plus I added a fun little tutorial further down the post :)

Dies ist mein letzter Post bevor ich abreise, aber dafür gibt es eine Bilderflut und weiter unten noch ein süßes DIY :) Oben rechts im Bild sieht man die neue LOVEMAG - ich hatte sehr viel Glück, denn ich habe sie bei der lieben Claudia gewonnen!

As I mentioned before my friends over at Union Knopf (leading manufacturer for buttons + accessories) sent me a whole box full of goodies, including these fun novelty buttons (top) and woven ribbon (bottom) which I fell in love with straight away! These are part of the Tante Ema ® range and are a fun addition to any sewists stash :) The woven ribbon looked real pretty stitched onto a napkin, preferably on a thicker cotton, as the ribbon itself is quite thick.

Wie ich ja bereits erwähnt hatte, haben mir die netten Kollegen von Union Knopf ein Paket mit diversen Knöpfen und Webbändern zukommen lassen. In diese süßen Knöpfe (oben) und das Webband mit den Marmeladengläsern (unten) habe ich mich sofort verliebt! Diese sind aus der beliebten Tante Ema ® Kollektion. Passende Rosenknöpfe zeigte ich ja bereits hier. Das Webband lässt sich gut verarbeiten, jedoch ist es recht steif, besonders an den Kanten. Dies würde ich eher an mittelschweren Stoffen annähen.

I used the larger of the buttons to decorate my elastic jam jar covers (tutorial below). I liked that they are smooth and have only two holes instead of four. Also, the holes were large enough for the twine to pass through! They have a cute jam jar and mug design - perfect for sewing onto kitchen accessories :)

Meine Marmeladenglas-Häubchen mit Elastik (Anleitung nachfolgend) habe ich zusätzlich mit den großen Knöpfen dekoriert. Sie sind schön glatt, das Design ansprechend und besonders gefällt mir, dass die Löcher groß genug sind, um das Küchengarn durchzuziehen. Diese Knöpfe eignen sich sehr schön für Küchenaccessoires :)

I used the smaller buttons to embellish this little heart trio. Sweet!

And now I'd like to share my instructions for making custom-sized elastic jam jar covers! They will make your breakfast table look so inviting :)

Wie oben angekündigt gibt es jetzt meine Anleitung für die Häubchen mit Elastikband. Anhand meiner Anleitung könnt Ihr sie für jede Größe machen. Da sieht der Frühstückstisch gleich viel hübscher aus :)

You'll need // Ihr benötigt

small pieces of cotton fabrics // Reststücke Baumwollstoff

5mm wide elastic // 5mm breites Elastikband

twine // gezwirntes Garn

buttons with large holes // Knöpfe mit relativ großen Löchern

fabric marker // Stoffmarker

sewing machine + basic sewing kit // Nähma + Nähutensilien

compass // Zirkel

To make these you basically need to draw three circles. The circle in the center is the circumference of the lid (#1). Mark the center. Using the compass draw the second circle 1.5 cm down from the first one - this is where you will attach the elastic. Then draw a third circle 3 cm down from the second one - the dotted line is the cutting line.

Im Prinzip müsst Ihr nur drei Kreise zeichnen. Der kleinste ist der Kreisumfang des Deckels (#1). Die Mitte markieren. Mit Hilfe des Zirkels den zweiten Kreis zeichnen, und zwar 1,5 cm größer - dies ist die Linie wo später das Elastikband angenäht wird. Den dritten Kreis 3 cm größer zeichnen - an der gepunkteten Linie ausschneiden.

Before starting you may want to finish the edge either with a serger or by folding under and edge-stitching the fold down (#3). Next, measure the second line (grey line). Subtract 10 cm and cut elastic. In #4 I marked the points at each quarter. Do the same on the piece of elastic. Attach one end of the elastic at one point, then begin sewing using a small zigzag stitch. Stretch the elastic as you go (sew slowly) and remember that the marks on the elastic (#5) must match those on the circle. Stitch all the way around, overlap end and backstitch. Now you should have something that resembles a small showercap for a doll ;-)

Bevor Ihr das Elastikband annäht, den Rand versäubern (#3). Entweder wie hier mit der Overlock oder einschlagen und knappkantig feststeppen. Am zweiten Kreis jedes Viertel einzeichnen (#4). Auch am Elastikband die Viertel einzeichnen. Nun ein Ende an einer Markierung festnähen. Dann mit kleinem ZickZack Stich das Elastikband leicht gedehnt annähen (langsam nähen). Die Markierungen müssen aufeinander treffen (#5). Rundherum annähen und Enden überlappend feststeppen. Und fertig ist das Marmeladenglas-Häubchen welches einer kleinen Duschhaube für eine Puppe ähnelt ;-)

Lastly, cut a piece of twine wrap around top, loop through button and tie with a bow! Cute, huh?

Zuletzt ein Stück Zwirn abschneiden, um die Haube binden, durch den Knopf fädeln und zur Schleife binden! Süß, oder?

I had a lot of fun working with these items. I bet the buttons are going to be a hit with sewists of all ages!

Es hat Spaß gemacht die  Produkte zu verarbeiten. Diese Serie an Knöpfen und Webbändern wird bei vielen NäherInnen sicher sehr gut ankommen!
