Handmade Pretties

Hi there lovelies!          Hallo Mädels!

Very early tomorrow morning I'll be leaving for Cologne to the international trade fair for craft supplies. I can't wait to see the new fabric collections and already have my eye on some nostalgic rose prints and polka dots which I've seen in a preview a few weeks ago.

Apart from that this weekend is also the award ceremony of the DIY Contest to which all twenty finalists (including myself) have been invited. Our respective projects will be displayed for all to see and of course there will be a meet & greet beforehand. This will be the first time for me to be meeting fellow crafty bloggers in person. So excited for that!

Morgen, in aller Frühe geht es Richtung Köln zur Stoffmesse. Ich freue mich schon auf die neuen Kollektionen und die ein oder andere wandert sicherlich später in den Shop :) An dieser Stelle (falls meine lieben Kunden mitlesen) möchte ich kurz vermerken, dass ich alle Kundenwünsche notiert habe und bei der Stoffauswahl selbstverständlich berücksichtigen werde :)

An diesem Wochenende findet außerdem die Siegerehrung des DIY Contest statt, zu der alle Finalistinnen eingeladen sind. Ich bin ja so gespannt und freue mich vor allem die anderen kreativen Blogger persönlich kennen zu lernen...mein allererstes Bloggertreffen überhaupt!

This last one is an aromatherapy neck pillow. It is filled with natural wheat grains and dried lavender. Gently warmed it helps relieve tension and muscle pain! Hope you get to relax this weekend. See you back on Monday :)

Das letzte ist ein Aromatherapie Nackenkissen gefüllt mit getrocknetem Lavendel und Dinkel. Wohltuend bei Verspannungen und Nackenschmerzen! In diesem Sinne, lasst es Euch gut gehen dieses Wochende. Bis Montag :)

Sunday Spotlight: Dita Maulani

Hello. Today's featured artisan hails all the way from the garden city Bogor, Indonesia. Dita is the owner of the Etsy shop Maulani. This young woman has always been crafty and loves anything handmade. Motivated to try out new crafts she started making whimsical necklaces for herself. Turns out they were a big hit with friends, and this encouraged Dita to open her first online shop in 2009. She sells her items both internationally and at local handicraft markets.
Since then Dita has expanded her range to include rings, earrings and brooches. Depending on her mood, she creates pieces that reflect her ethnicity or her youthfulness in fun, geometric shapes. Feathers are a recurring theme in her jewelry, often times incorporated into necklaces and earrings. Her first sale - her needle felted necklace - became her bestselling item.

Dita would love to expand her business to include accessories like scarves and headbands, but says a low income is the main hindrance to grow her business. Ever energetic, Dita can't keep her fingers from creating for long! She's passionate about it and believes that despite money issues keeping a positive mindset, believing in her craft and sticking with it will eventually result in the outcome she's hoping for. Dita's advice for others just starting out is to keep in mind the importance of branding your items, keep perfecting your craft and above all perservere!

Hallo. Heutiger Interview Partner im Sunday Spotlight ist Dita Maulani, aus der Gartenstadt Bogor, auf der Insel West Java in Indonesien. Dita hatte schon immer spezielles Interesse an DIY Projekten. Nach einer Zeit des kreativen Experimentierens began sie originelle Halsketten mit witzigen Details zu fertigen ~ zunächst nur für sich selbst. Der Anklang unter Freunden war gross! Das motivierte die junge Frau 2009 ihren ersten Online Shop zu eröffnen. Ihr Sortiment hat sie in der Zwischenzeit erweitert, und so findet man bei ihr alles von mit Federn verzierten Ketten und Ohrringe über geometrische Halsketten bis hin zu folkloristisch inspirierten Schmuck. Sie verkauft ihre Ware sowohl international als auch auf ortsansässigen Märkten. Wäre da nicht das in Handarbeitskreisen universelle Problem des Geldflusses würde sie sehr gern ihr Geschäft um Halstücher und Haarbänder erweitern. Nichtsdestotrotz bleibt Dita ihrem langfristigen Ziel treu. Konzentriert sich auf neue, sehr individuelle Schmuckstücke. Gerne fertigt sie auch kundenspezifisch an.Wo andere hätten längst aufgegeben zeigt diese Frohnatur außergewöhliches Durchhaltevermögen, eine positive Einstellung und Freude an ihren Kreationen - drei Eigenschaften die sie auch jedem "Neuling" in der Branche empfiehlt!
