What to pack for a weekend in Paris

In two weeks we're off to Paris and I would be lying if I said I haven't yet thought of what to pack! Luckily, I prefer to travel light and for this whirlwind trip of only 2 days I'll just be taking my carry-on. I realize that my photo gear will probably take up most of the space and since there's a weight limit for hand luggage I need to choose clothing wisely. The weather can be all over the place in May, but that's where my short black, smart yet functional Trench coat comes in handy. And we all know Parisians love to wear black! My typical travel outfit consists of a striped long-sleeved T-shirt paired with straight blue jeans, black sneakers plus a scarf (I never go without). Of course, after the dangle earring disaster from years ago I only ever where studs now :) A gold watch adds a nice finishing touch. A few years ago my mother gave me her delicate vintage one. Thanks, Mom!

In zwei Wochen geht es nach Paris, und natürlich habe ich schon überlegt was ich an Bekleidung mitnehme! Generell bevorzuge ich es mit leichtem Gepäck zu reisen und für diese Kurzreise wird mein Handgepäck ausreichen müssen. Meine Fotoausrüstung wird wahrscheinlich den größten Teil einnehmen, und da ja noch das Gewicht zu beachten ist, muss ich meine Kleidungsstücke mit Bedacht wählen. Das Wetter im Mai ist of wechselhaft, aber dafür habe ich ja meinen schwarzen Kurztrench. Und wie wir ja alle wissen tragen die Frauen in Paris gerne schwarz!

Mein typisches Reise-Outfit besteht aus einem gestreiften langärmeligen T-Shirt gepaart mit geraden Jeans, schwarzen Turnschuhen und einem Schal (Ich verreise nie ohne). Nach der Ohrring-Katastrophe von vor Jahren trage ich beim Reisen nur noch Ohrstecker :) Eine hübsche Uhr rundet das Ensemble schick ab. Ich trage eine schmale Vintage Uhr, die mir meine Mutter vor ein paar Jahren gegeben hat.

Then, for a casual night out at a wine bar I would opt for skinny black jeans paired with a cute print top and a bold statement necklace. A black envelope clutch and black ballerina flats complete the outfit. If it get's chilly I can always throw on the Trench. The items shown here are all relatively crease resistant and don't take up much space in the hand luggage. Now, I wouldn't actually bring along the nailpolish (carry-on restrictions on liquids) I'd simply do my nails before the trip.

Das zweite Outfit ist das "Ausgeh-Outfit", z.B. in ein nettes Weinlokal. Hier kombiniere ich schwarze Skinny Jeans mit einem Print Oberteil und Statementkette. Dazu eine schwarze Clutch und schwarze Ballerinas. Den Trench nehme ich vorsichtshalber mit, falls es abends kühl wird. Die hier gezeigten Artikel sind alle relativ knitterarm und nehmen nicht viel Platz im Handgepäck ein. Wegen der Flüssigkeitsbeschränkung nehme ich den Nagellack natürlich nicht mit, sondern lackiere mir kurz vor der Abreise die Nägel.

Hi everybody!         Hallo Mädels!

In a few days I will finally be leaving for my Mom's :) Since she lives far from where I live my only option is to fly. Unfortunately, I hate flying. The air is so dry inside the cabin that I can feel my skin "crack" plus my hair turns to frizz. And I won't be able to wear my contacts either. And my ears always hurt too. Sigh. To make it less of an ordeal I like to wear super comfortable clothing...

1. slim fitting, but not skin tight cotton (breathable) pants

The only occasion I don't wear jeans is on a plane. They seem to shrink while up there, the waistband cutting into my tummy. Ugh. I like cargo pants with side pockets where I can easily access a pack of wet wipes...in case I or someone else spills orange juice. You never know!

2. Stretchy long-sleeved Tshirt

4. A practical non-crease tailored jacket in a dark colour

This will look smart casual - gets you through the security check smoothly :)
Again, pockets inside and out are useful.

5. A cheery waterproof carry on bag

With travel bags I always go for bright colours. You can be sure no one is going to steal that one! Also, it needs to be waterproof, in case I'm required to access the plane via an open space on foot, while it's pouring heavily. Yes, that happened!

6. Loafers with ribbed sole

These days I prefer a slip-on type of shoe while on a plane. If you've ever tried bending down in a tight space trying to tie shoe laces you'll know what I mean. Lesson learned! The ribbed sole is useful when you're late and speeding towards the gate...

7. a pair of simple ear studs
When I was younger, much younger I once wore chandelier earrings on the plane. The guy next to me got up and somehow my earring got snagged on the sleeve of his jumper. Ouch! Lesson learned ;-)

In wenigen Tagen fliege ich endlich zu meiner Mutter :) Problem ist, ich fliege überhaupt nicht gern! In der Flugzeugkabine ist die Luft dermaßen trocken, dass sich meine Haut "zusammenzieht", meine Haare werden zu Stroh, die Ohren schmerzen und natürlich kann ich meine Kontaktlinsen nicht tragen. Seufz . Damit die Reise nicht ganz zur Qual wird trage ich immer super bequeme Kleidung...

1 . Schmal geschnittene , aber nicht hautenge, atmungsaktive Hosen 

Ich trage gerne Jeans, aber niemals im Flugzeug oder zumindest nie wieder. Dort oben scheinen sie zu schrumpfen und der Bund wird immer enger...kennt Ihr das? Puh. Statt dessen mag ich Cargo-Hosen mit Seitentaschen, die den schnellen Zugriff auf Feuchttücher ermöglichen ... falls ich oder jemand anderes Orangensaft verschüttet. Man weiß ja nie!

2 . Langarm-Shirt

4 . Eine praktische, knitterfreie Jacke, möglichst in einer dunklen Farbe 

 Sieht smart-casual aus - ein Pluspunkt bei der Sicherheitskontrolle :) Auch diverse Taschen außen wie innen sind sinnvoll.

5 . Auffälliges, wasserdichtes Handgepäck

Meine Reisetasche bevorzuge ich in einer knalligen Farben. Die wird so schnell keiner mitgehen lassen! Außerdem muss sie wasserdicht sein, falls - um zum Flugzeug zu gelangen - ein Fußmarsch über einen offenen Platz bei heftigem Regen nötig ist - Ja, ist tatsächlich schon mal passiert!
 
6 . Slipper mit gerippter Sohle

Im Flieger trage ich lieber Schlüpf- statt Schnürschuhe.   Aus Erfahrung weiß ich, dass es nicht einfach ist in der Holzklasse auf beengtem Raum sich zu bücken, um die Schnürsenkel zu binden. Uffz. Ein Schuh mit gerippter Sohle ist empfehlenswert, vor allem wenn man spät dran ist und panisch zum Flugsteig rennen muss...

7 . Dezente Ohrstecker 

Als ich jünger war, viel jünger trug ich einmal Chandelier Ohrringe im Flugzeug. Der Mann neben mir stand auf und dummerweise verhakte sich mein Ohrring am Ärmel seines Strickpullis. Autsch! Lektion gelernt ;-)
