Frida meets Karneval - Boho Scarf Tutorial

This is Part Four of my Frida Kahlo carneval costume. Some of you have written that you really like this scarf. Good news - the boho scarf is simple to sew and easily finished in an hour or so! I chose three coordinating fabrics.

Dies ist Teil Vier meines Frida Kahlo Karnevalkostüms. Einige von Euch haben mir geschrieben, dass Euch der Schal besonders gut gefällt. Gute Nachricht - dieser Boho-Schal ist einfach zu nähen und im Nu fertig! Ich habe drei aufeinander abgestimmte Stoffe gewählt.

You'll need:

Fabric A - 2 rectangular pieces 92 cm x 30 cm

Fabric B - 4 rectangular pieces 22 cm x 30 cm

Fabric C - 4 rectangular pieces 15 cm x 30 cm

1 m pompom trim 

sewing machine and basic sewing kit

scarf-accessory (optional)

Ihr braucht:

Stoff A - 2 rechteckige Stoffteile 92 cm x 30 cm

Stoff B - 4 rechteckige Stoffteile 22 cm x 30 cm

Stoff C - 4 rechteckige Stoffteile 15 cm x 30 cm

1 m Minipompomborte

Nähmaschine und Basic Nähutensilien 

Schalaccessoire (optional)

Step One // Schritt Eins

Lay fabric pieces B at each end of fabric pieces A, right sides facing. Pin and stitch using a 1 cm seam allowance. Iron seams open. 
Lay fabric pieces C at each end of fabric pieces B, right sides facing. Pin and stitch using a 1 cm seam allowance. Iron seams open.

Stoffteile B jeweils links und rechts auf Stoffteile A legen (rechts auf rechts). Feststecken und absteppen (1 cm Naht). Nähte auseinander bügeln.
Stoffteile C jeweils link und rechts auf Stoffteile B legen (rechts auf rechts). Feststecken und absteppen (1 cm Naht). Nähte auseinander bügeln.

Step Two // Schritt Zwei

Lay one long strip right side up. Cut pompom trim to fit along the short edges of this strip. Pin and stitch down close to the edge. The pompoms should be facing toward the fabric. ↓

Einen langen Steifen ausbreiten, rechte Seite oben. Pompomborte an den kurzen Enden mit Nadeln feststecken und nah am Rand absteppen. Die Pompoms schauen in Richtung Stoff. ↓

Step Three // Schritt Drei

Lay the other long strip on top of the first long strip, making sure seams meet. Pin all around leaving a 10 cm (4 inch) gap on one long side. Stitch using a 1 cm seam allowance. Be careful when sewing along the pompom edges. You should be sewing just inside the first stitching line you made when sewing on the trim. Snip the corners carefully, then gently turn right side out through the gap. Iron the scarf. Use a decorative stitch on both long sides (thereby closing the gap). 

Now throw it around your neck and have fun wearing it!

Den zweiten langen Streifen rechts auf rechts auf den ersten legen. Darauf achten, dass alle Nähte aufeinander treffen. Ringsum abstecken, dabei an einer langen Seite eine 10 cm Öffnung zum Wenden lassen. Absteppen (1 cm Naht). An den kurzen Seiten vorsichtig nähen. Die Naht sollte knapp neben der ersten Naht sein. Ecken knapp abschneiden und Schal vorsichtig durch die Öffnung auf rechts wenden. Bügeln. An beiden langen Seiten einen Zierstich nähen, dabei Öffnung schließen. 

Nun könnt Ihr den fertigen Schal stolz um den Hals legen! Viel Spaß!

Knitting Project Nr. 1

I challenged myself to learn how to knit as a way to wind down after a day's work. I've heard so much about people enthusing about the "meditative" state you get in while knitting. Well, I've discovered two things. One, just because I can sew it doesn't mean that I can automatically knit. Two, my first few rows were more frustrating than meditative. I realized I had a long way to go, but as they say : practice makes perfect.

Ich wollte dieses Jahr unbedingt das Stricken erlernen, weil ich von vielen gehört habe wie entspannend es ist (und außerdem finde ich Wolle toll). Nun, zwei Dinge stellten sich heraus. Erstens, nur weil ich nähen kann bedeutet das nicht, dass ich automatisch stricken kann. Zweitens, die ersten Reihen waren eher frustrierend als entspannend! Aber wie man sagt: Übung macht den Meister.

I bought some chunky knitting needles and Rowan's big wool in a gorgeous mauve. Oh, and one more thing I discovered - wool is expensive! Since this scarf is my first project (from the book knitty gritty) I only knitted garter stitches.

Ich ging also los und kaufte schöne, dicke Wolle von Rowan in der Farbe Malve und fette Stricknadeln. Nebenbei bemerkt - Wolle ist ja richtig teuer! Mein erstes Projekt sollte ein Schal aus dem Buch knitty gritty werden, natürlich erstmal glatt rechts gestrickt.

Every evening I knitted and knitted until I got the hang of it. Coincidentally, the colour matches my little vase :)

Jeden Abend habe ich gestrickt und gestrickt bis ich endlich den Dreh heraus hatte. Übrigens, die Farbe meines Schals passt sehr gut zu dieser kleinen Vase :)

Finally! My scarf is finished and just in time, since it has started to snow here for the first time this season! I added a fringe to it too. The sides near the ends of the scarf are a bit wonky, and I still need to learn how to weave in the ends neatly - still, I'm pretty proud of it!

Endlich fertig! Und genau zum richtigen Zeitpunkt, denn es hat hier gestern zum ersten Mal geschneit und es soll noch kälter werden. Dem Schal habe ich dann noch Fransen drangemacht, und obwohl die Seiten nicht so gleichmäßig sind wie ich sie gern hätte bin ich doch mächtig stolz!

The next project in the book is a hat using Aran wool and thinner needles. I wonder how that will turn out!

Das nächste Projekt an das ich mich wage ist eine Mütze. Dafür suche ich nicht zu dunkle, grün-melierte Wolle! Habt ihr vielleicht Tipps für mich wo ich welche preisgünstig bekomme??
