Handmade Trend Report Part 1

Well, I'm back from the trade fair and it was just as exciting/tiring as last year! With ca. 314 international exhibitors and hundreds of visitors it was a hive of activity. All types of craft continue to be hugely popular, with sewing topping the popularity list for the first time. Since I own a  fabric shoppe this is fabulous news for me, obviously! Also, there's an increase in young people (ages 12 - 14) who are becoming interested in taking up a craft as a hobby. All in all, very good news for anyone working in this industry.

As I was walking down the various aisles I snapped some images with my digicam. I don't want to overwhelm you with photos, so this is Part 1. I will post the fashion show in Part 2 next week.

Achtung, es folgt eine Bilderflut (daher Teil 1). Die Modenschau zeige ich nächste Woche in Teil 2.

This tent greeted me at the entrance. It is made from handknitted squares.

Dieses Zelt stand am Eingang. Es wurde aus handgestrickten Quadraten gefertigt.

Turquoise/Red Quilt // Türkis-Roter Quilt

Owls are as popular as ever // Eulen sind nach wie vor sehr beliebt

colourful crystal beads // Kristallperlen zur Schmuckherstellung

Knits // Gestricktes

Patchwork & sewing // Genähtes

more knits & fabrics // gestrickt u. genäht

...and I saw Maya, the Bee ;-)

...und die Biene Maja war dort auch anzutreffen ;-)

Good for you, if you've made it this far :) Anyway, the fashion show I went to was really exciting, better than last year in my opinion. Stay tuned for that next week!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Wow that tent looks amazing. I can't believe they knitted all those squares. Definitely dedication. It's nice to hear that people are becoming more interested in handmade items. I just feel it's nice to move away from factory-made products for a while.

What a fun show! That tent had to take forever to make! And I love the owl pillows. I'm glad to hear they're still popular :)

Man, that tent must have taken a lot of people and a lot of time!

I really like the ottoman poofs in one of the photos, too. Glad to know this year's trade show had good news for you!

I like Maya the Bee and the hand-knit teepee, but I didn't like the turquoise and red quilt---blech. Well, maybe it is just me, but I didn't care for that combination. I hope it was better in person. :P

Hi Duni! I'm catching up with your posts again haha

I've never been to a textile trade fair. I may not be into arts and crafts but I love appreciating all those beautiful fabric and handmade items. The crochet or knitted tent is amazing! The owl cross stitched is so cute.

I'm reading your succeeding posts and I'm looking forward on your new projects. I'm sure you are more inspired now.

Have a great week!
