It's August already! The birthstone for August is peridot, a pretty gemstone that comes in fresh lime green (my favourite), olive or bottle green. This stone looks equally good set in either silver or gold. Do you like it?

Es ist schon August! Der Peridot ist der Geburtsstein für diesen Monat und erinnert mit seinen frischen Grüntönen an eine Sommerwiese. Es gibt ihn in intensiven Limettengrün (mein Favorit) bis Flaschengrün. Dieser Edelstein sieht gleichermaßen mit Silber oder Gold kombiniert gut aus. Mögt Ihr diese Farbe?

Mint & Black

...was the theme of my birthday two weeks ago.You might remember last year's theme was pink.

These were very tasty! I ordered them from Maison Macaron, who make each order from scratch.

Diese waren köstlich! Ich habe sie von Maison Macaron bestellt. Jede Bestellung wird frisch hergestellt.

I made a batch of fairy cakes. It's a smaller version of a cup cake with a lighter topping, in this case lemon cream. Yum!

Gebacken habe ich Fairy Cakes - wie Cupcakes, nur kleiner und mit einem leichteren Topping, in diesem Fall Zitronencreme. Lecker!

Birthday Impressions

I'm back!!      Ich bin wieder da!!

Although it was a whirlwind visit with my family we had a really great time, lots of reminiscing and of course I got to see my niece wearing her new outfit :) I was so busy catching up with everyone that I didn't take a lot of pictures. But my brother did, so I'm hoping he'll send me some! Before I left I made a birthday cake for my friends here and we had a little pre-birthday celebration.

Auch wenn die Woche viel zu kurz war habe ich die Zeit mit meiner Familie sehr genossen; es gab jede Menge zu erzählen (das ist normal wenn man weit auseinander wohnt), daher habe ich es verpasst Fotos zu machen, auch nicht von meiner Nichte in ihrem neuen Outfit. Ich hoffe mein Bruder schickt mir ein paar Bilder! Vor meiner Abreise gabs eine kleine Vor-Geburtstagsfeier in kleine Runde hier. Ich wollte schon immer einen pinkfarbenen Kuchen, und da es den nicht zu kaufen gab habe ich ihn kurzerhand selbst gebacken.

Retro Homespun

Hi everybody!      Hallo ihr Lieben!

I'm visiting my mom in three weeks, and since my brother and his family are flying in I decided to have a little party (as it's also my birthday then)! I love themed parties, so this year I wanted something colourful and cheery - maybe because we are so sun-deprived this summer ;-)

In drei Wochen habe ich Urlaub! Wir fahren zu meiner Mutter, und da mein Bruder und seine Familie aus USA einfliegen gibt's eine kleine Feier (zufällig fällt mein Geburtstag in diesen Zeitraum)! Ich mag gerne Farbthemen für die Deko, Karten etc. und da wir momentan viel zu wenig Sonne haben sollte es natürlich heiter und bunt-fröhlich sein! 

I started on the invitation (Einladung) cards last weekend. The colour combination I chose is unusual: dusty rose, mango and butter yellow with touches of bright green and red! I stamped the cards with a cupcake motif and sewed on a button with twine. The edges are deliberately torn. On the back of the card are the date, time and location. I also added some stitching to the envelopes for that homespun style!

Ich habe schon mal die Einladungskarten gebastelt. Das Farbthema mag etwas ungewöhnlich sein: Rosé, Mango, Buttergelb mit etwas Grün und Rot. Die Karten habe ich mit einem Cupcake bestempelt und einen Knopf mit Zwirn angenäht. Auf der Rückseite stehen das Datum, Uhrzeit und Location. Die Umschläge habe ich mit einem Geradstich verziert - eben Homespun Style!

Meanwhile I received Mollie Makes issue Nr. 16 in my mailbox yesterday. Isn't that cover yummy? Makes me want to make one of those funky bracelets, the one with the peace sign especially!

Unterdessen kam gestern die Mollie Makes Nr. 16 angeflattert. Ist das Cover nicht toll? Ich habe richtig Lust dazu solche funky Armbändchen zu knüpfen, besonders das mit dem Peace Zeichen!

Banana & White Chocolate Muffins

Well, it was my birthday yesterday and I took a half day off. Unbelievably, the sun was out!
Ich hatte gestern Geburtstag und habe mir einen halben Tag frei genommen. Erstaunlicherweise hatten wir sogar ein bisschen Sonnenschein!

To celebrate I made a batch of banana and white chocolate muffins. These are quite sweet, but oh-so-yummy. Nice and moist with chunks of melted white chocolate inside.
Zur Feier des Tages habe ich Bananen Muffins mit weißer Schokolade gebacken. Sie sind recht süß, aber sehr lecker, mit weißen Schokoladestückchen. Die Bananen sorgen dafür, dass diese Muffins kein bisschen trocken sind.

Meine Lieben, ich würde Euch gerne welche aufheben, aber garantieren kann ich's nicht. Dafür gibt es das (etwas von mir abgewandelte) Rezept zum Nachbacken. Ich freue mich wie eine Schneekönigin wenn ihr mich hier auf meinem Blog besucht, und Eure netten Kommentare versüßen mir den Tag! Danke♥

250 gr plain flour/Mehl

1 tsp. baking powder/1 TL Backpulver

pinch of salt/Prise Salz

grated nutmeg/etwas geriebene Muskatnuss

100 gr. white chocolate/weiße Schokolade

125 gr butter or margerine/Butter od. Margerine

125 gr. sugar/Zucker

500 gr. bananas/Bananen

2 medium sized eggs/Eier Gr. M

1 lime/Limette

mix the flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg in a bowl. chop chocolate. beat sugar with butter or margerine until creamy in another bowl. beat in eggs. sprinkle lime over bananas and mash. add butter mixture to dry ingredients. fold in mashed bananas. fold in chocolate. stir well. pour into 12 muffin moulds (use non-stick paper mould liners) and bake in pre-heated oven for 25 min. (200°C)

Mehl, Backpulver, Salz, Muskat in einer Schüssel mischen. Fett und Zucker schaumig schlagen. Eier untermengen. Schokolade hacken. Bananen mit etwas Limette pürieren. Mehlmischung unter die Fettcreme rühren. Bananenpüree untermengen. Zuletzt Schokostückchen unterheben. Gut umrühren. Teig in ein 12er, mit Papierbackförmchen ausgelegten Muffinblech füllen. Im vorgeheizten Ofen bei 200°C ca. 25 Min. backen.

And, of course, I love heart-shaped things too! And pink! Guess what this ingenious little device is? It's a bag hook! You can open the 'rim' of the heart and hook it on to the edge of a table to hang your bag instead of having to keep it on your lap or on the floor like most of us do. How cool is that? Hi, I'm back!

Oh my goodness! I can't believe I've been away from my blog this long?! Time to catch up :) Now that all my house guests and friends have gone I'm rather exhausted. We've been out and about the last couple days, and my feet are killing me. It was nice having one of my dearest girlfriends stay over and talk 'shop'. She's an accomplished seamstress, and we had a nice day out choosing fabrics for our respective next project. Last week I managed to slip away from my guests and into the doctor's office. I finally got a result, which somehow is a relief, although the result is not good. Nevertheless, at least I know I haven't got anything life-threatening. They have put me on cortisone 'therapy', and I will need to go for regular check-ups and blood tests every six weeks from now on. So far I can report that the pain in my arms and legs is much less. Yay! We spent my birthday in a nice restaurant and later had delicious Swedish apple cake. Yum. I got such nice gifts too. My brother knows I'm a huge Crate & Barrel fan, and he sent me this huge box containing wonderful things from that store. Hey - what are brothers for, right? I got the medium sized walnut frame This beautiful leaf-shaped soap dish, plus two white-tea scented vegetable soaps and this platter made from organic wood From my mom I received essential oils (I need these constantly, and very convenient for me - my mom used to be an aromatherapist). From my husband I got a very special and personal gift, which was sooooo sweet ♥ So...I'm a year older. Any wiser you might ask? Nope. Just a few more grey hairs and for some reason I keep having to pluck my eyebrows more often these days! I look forward to getting back into my usual routine, and I'll be visiting all of my bloggy friends shortly. Thanks for your patience!
