Who else loves journaling? I've kept a journal or notebook my entire life! Back in the day they were pretty standard, usually lined, and I remember giving mine an upgrade with stickers. Nowadays the choices are endless. Plus there's a whole array of journal essentials, such as washi tapes, sticker sheets, binder clips and writing tools. If you have not already guessed today's theme - it's "patterns". As a former fabric store owner I love all kinds of patterns, especially polka dots and gingham. I'm known for sporting bags printed with polka dots. Nautical stripes are also a firm favorite. My choices here include fun stripey earrings and a vintage gingham skirt. The scarf with irregular dots is so pretty and the tote bag would be a great choice on market days. Which one is your favorite?

Hi everyone!

Today's mood board is "the linen edition" in pastels. Linen is a flax-based textile used for home accessories and clothing, which, unlike cotton, dries quickly and thus it's a very popular fashion choice if you live in a hot and humid climate! These days most clothes are a mix of linen and synthetic fibres which prevents creasing and doesn't shrink when washed. I wish they had had those when I lived in Asia!

The enchanting amethyst is February's birthstone and my theme for this monday's mood board. Amethyst is a violet variety of quartz and is known as the stone of inner peace. Its soothing purple color has a relaxing effect on the mind and soul. Wearing amethyst jewelry can help to bring a sense of peace and balance into everyday life. No wonder it's so popular. Hi everyone!

Usually, I curate a Pantone Color of the Year mood board, but this year they chose white. There's nothing wrong with white per se, but frankly it's a bit boring in my opinion and reminds me of office walls. Instead I've chosen "patina blue", which is Etsy's color of the year, basically a teal color, which I love and frequently use in my art. Enjoy my picks!

Hi everyone!

The four weeks before Christmas, which we celebrate on the 24th December here in Germany, is called "Adventszeit" - a time of peaceful contemplation, in which one reflects on the essentials before Christmas, away from the stress of everyday life. Each Sunday we light another candle on the Advent wreath - or in my case, a modern DIY version - gather family members if you're lucky enough to have them close by, and listen to Christmas songs, while eating homebaked cookies. This season is bittersweet for me, as my dear mother passed shortly before Christmas ten years ago. (I can't believe it's been this long!) So, while I like to keep up the traditions she passed down to me, everything is a lot more subdued ever since. I tried to convey this feeling in my mood board today. I hope you like it!

Hello (again) Etsy! Life lately and Christmas Special

I'm coming up for air after three intense weeks of technical issues with my online shop. You know how my online shop is my "baby"? Well, I received an email from my hosting service that they would be carrying out a PHP update. I didn't think this would affect my website adversely, but on the day they implemented it my website was gone, like entirely. One call to an independent software developer later it turns out I required a completely new database that supported this new PHP version. I didn't have an option other than to employ said developer to restore and install a new database. Finally my website is up, but I find it doesn't run properly. And as of two days ago I'm unable to log in to my own site!! The tech guy is trying to fix the issue as I write. Update: I can log in again!

ich dachte ich melde mich mal wieder auf dem Blog! Vor einem Monat erhielt ich eine Nachricht von meinem Webanbieter, dass eine PHP Umstellung ansteht. Dies hatte leider zur Folge, dass mein Online Shop mehrere Tage komplett verschwunden war und nur mit Hilfe eines PHP Entwicklers konnte diese wieder hergestellt werden - aber leider nicht so wie sie vorher war! Es mussten u.a. viele Fehler behoben und meine fast vierhundert Artikel überarbeitet werden - ich habe dafür ein paar Nachtschichten eingelegt. Soweit so gut, nur leider kann ich mich seit zwei Tagen nicht mehr einloggen und somit auch nichts verkaufen/bearbeiten!! Seufz. Nach so viel Arbeit ist es irgendwie  deprimierend. Nun heißt es für mich abwarten und Geduld üben. Denn das Problem kann nur ein Programmierer lösen. Update: es klappt wieder mit dem Einloggen!

Meanwhile I have reopened my Etsy shop! I'm offering my best selling fabrics on here as well as a limited edition of handmade items. There are quite a few changes on Etsy since I was last active on there in 2016. I had to get legal advice because of all the new laws that have been passed over here this year. I am glad I had the foresight to transfer my reviews to Etsy before Dawanda shut down. My stats have gone up since I've begun listing again, so at least I know my shop is being seen :)

Unterdessen habe ich mich entschieden bei Etsy wieder aktiv zu werden. Es hat sich dort viel verändert und ich habe ein paar Tage gebraucht, um mich da wieder zurechtzufinden. Etsy ist eines der bekanntesten Marktplätze in der Branche und zieht weltweit massiv viele Kunden an. Außerdem bietet Etsy viele hilfreiche Shop-Funktionen für den Verkäufer. Nachdem ich dort Artikel eingestellt habe sind meine Besucherzahlen in die Höhe geschossen. Was bin ich froh, dass ich damals die Weitsicht hatte meine (Dawanda)-Bewertungen rechtzeitig noch bei Etsy zu sichern :) 

To distract from all the technical issues and also to calm my mind I have been busy making stuff :) I hand stamped the above lavender pillows with cute folksy motifs.

Um mich von den technischen Problemen abzulenken habe ich mich meinem liebsten Hobby gewidmet. Die obigen Lavendel Kissen zum Aufhängen sind mit süßen Motiven bestempelt.

Goodbye Dawanda

So, this past weekend I received news from Europe's biggest online selling venue "Dawanda" that they will be permanently closing on 30th August 2018. As my regular readers know I started my first shop selling fabrics on Dawanda and was pretty successful, until they changed their business model in 2015. As the saying goes, it's best not to put all eggs in one basket - one reason I decided to host my own website a year later. After receiving my official termination notice from Dawanda I'm especially grateful today that I can fall back on my own online shop. However, I have been steadily selling off merchandise, such as kids' fabric, hard to find Amy Butler and Joel Dewberry fabrics not to mention all sorts of ribbons in my old shop on Dawanda. I've sold about half my stock and the abrupt closure  kind of thwarts my effort to sell off the rest. According to the message I received, Dawanda has an agreement with Etsy to provide a tool that will enable Dawanda sellers to move to Etsy. (I'm pretty sure current Etsy sellers aren't thrilled about that). I have 2000+ positive reviews on Dawanda which I don't want to lose. I'm currently undecided. If I use the tool and transfer my shop to Etsy, I will start from scratch but save the reviews. Or I could re-open my existing account (thankfully I secured the Duni's Studio shop name) where I already have around 1600 shop followers, but lose the reviews. Plus, once Dawanda shuts down all of my links as well as my features on their blog will be lost forever. I can live with that, but the bottom line is, I need to sell off the rest of my  stock. Any suggestions??

Sicherlich hat es die eine oder andere Leserin über die Sozialen Medien bereits mitbekommen. Dawanda - Europas größte Verkaufsplattform stellt ihr operatives Geschäft zum 30. August 2018 ein. Nichtsdestotrotz läuft bislang mein Dawanda Shop nebenher, denn ich habe dort noch einige seltene Amy Butler und Joel Dewberry Stoffe und diverse Kinderstoffe im Angebot. Die Hälfte habe ich davon schon abverkauft, aber mit einer abrupten Schließung von Dawanda habe ich natürlich nicht gerechnet. Wie ich aus der Nachricht von Dawanda eruieren konnte gibt es wohl eine Abmachung mit Etsy sowie ein Tool welches Dawanda Verkäufern ermöglicht nach Etsy zu wechseln, ohne dass dabei die Bewertungen verloren gehen. Sobald Dawanda den Stecker zieht gehen natürlich alle Links und meine Dawanda Blog Beiträge verloren. Naja, damit kann ich leben. Letztendlich geht es mir darum, die Ware, die vom Design her nicht in das Konzept von meinem Online Shop passen anderweitig, möglichst unkompliziert abzuverkaufen. Ratschläge und Tipps willkommen :)

Some of my regular readers may have noticed that I haven't been blogging much lately. I had so many fun projects planned for this year, but unfortunately my persisting health issues have thwarted them all. I felt nauseous and dizzy on my birthday last week, so unfortunately I had to cancel dinner. Of course, in the face of what's happening around the world my problems seem somewhat insignificant, although I do believe the current collective negativity is having a detrimental effect on my recovery, because I am so susceptible to lower energies! I have been diligently cleansing my chakras and have delved deeper into healing with crystal energy (more on that in a future post!) and I try to eat as nutritiously as possible to counteract the negative side effects of the meds. Please bear with me - hopefully I will be back to my regular blogging routine soon. After all my blog is my happy place. I love blogging :)

First, it took me forever to download some of these pics from Etsy. I was thinking it was my computer, but then I realized the photo format on Etsy has changed. Many are now .png files. Also,  it seems the file size limit has been reduced. Anyone else on Etsy notice this? It sure puts a damper on curating mood boards. Anyway, cacti are still trending this season - they are everywhere from prints to crafts! Plus they remind me of my maternal grandmother who used to cultivate a whole bunch of colorful cacti. I wish I had inherited her green thumb ;-)

Hallo zusammen! Letzte Woche hat es mich mit einer fiesen Erkältung erwischt, daher bin ich nicht zum Bloggen gekommen. Da ich natürliche Heilmittel bevorzuge, habe ich viel Kräutertee getrunken und natürlich sind meine ätherischen Öle wieder zum Einsatz gekommen. Ganz fit bin ich noch nicht, aber es wird besser. Also a good time to take stock. My storage space is bursting at the seams! In NRW beginnen heute die Sommerferien, d.h. es wird allgemein etwas ruhiger. Im Augenblick kommt mir das gut gelegen - da kann ich mich nämlich meinem Sommernähprojekt widmen.
