Friday, September 30

Happy Friday!

I just wanted to stop in quickly on this last day of September to say hello! The next few days... probably weeks are going to be super busy around here as I am currently working on a big project. This project had been on my wish list forever and suddenly somehow everything fell into place a week ago and it's all hands on deck! I'm so excited and I'm longing to share, but not before everything is finished and...well, perfect :) Meanwhile we're looking forward to a long weekend, as Monday is Germany's national day!

A - Z of essential oils { Eucalyptus }

Hello lovelies!         Hallo ihr Lieben!

Eucalyptus is a well-known essential oil which I make sure to keep in my basic care kit. The medicinal qualities of this oil, which is derived by steam destillation of the leaves and young branches of the eucalyptus tree were discovered by two doctors in 1788. Eucalyptus is such a useful oil! It cools the body in summer and protects it in winter. It is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, diuretic and deodorising and is best known for its effectiveness against coughs and colds, but can also be used as an insect repellant in conjunction with Citronella. There are several varieties of Eucalyptus oils available - I prefer the one from its native country, Australia. However, there are some high grade ones from Spain and South Africa as well.

Application / Anwendung

Of the many health benefits of Eucalyptus essential oil I personally use it mostly for treating respiratory problems and mental exhaustion. The following are my two favorite recipes.

Common cold ~ steam inhalation
In a large bowl pour hot water. Add 2 drop of Eucalyptus essential oil, 1 drop Tea Tree essential oil and 1 drop Lemon essential oil. Bend face over bowl, close eyes, cover head with a towel and inhale deeply. Do this before bedtime.

Common cold ~ oil blend for chest
Dilute 1 drop Lemon and 3 drops Eucalyptus in 1 teaspoon base oil, such as almond. Massage around chest area using circling motions.

Mental stimulant
Eucalyptus increases blood flow to the brain and has a wonderfully refreshing effect. Perfect for when you feel sluggish at work. In a clean hanky put one drop of Eucalyptus and one drop of Peppermint essential oil. Inhale as necessary.
