I finally found some time to make a new cover for my hot water bottle as the old one was threadbare and out of shape from repeated washing. The great thing about these covers is that you can create the pattern according to the size of the bottle. If you'd like to make your own here are some tips and techniques that might come in useful!

Mein alter Wärmeflaschenbezug hat ausgedient, und da es jetzt deutlich kälter geworden ist musste schnellstens ein neuer her. Selbstgenäht natürlich! Das Gute an diese Art von Bezügen ist, dass man den Schnitt anhand der Flasche, egal ob groß oder klein, selbst anfertigen kann. Hier einige Tipps dazu, falls es Euch (besonders die NäherInnen unter den Bloggern) interessiert!
Tips & Techniques (this is not a tutorial)
Make the pattern by tracing around your hot water bottle (without the cover) on a piece of paper
Draw a line down the middle
Then on one side only extend the outline by 1.2"
Fold paper in half and cut out around the shape, fold open
you may have noticed that the front has an overlapping closure
For the top and bottom front piece you will need to cut the pieces so that they have a 2" overlap
Mark this on your main pattern

When layering your "quilt sandwich" make sure to cut the lining and batting slightly larger than the main piece: when top stitching (quilting) the bottom layers seem to bunch and shrink. You can always cut away the excess later

I made a mistake on the first cover while quilting the two front pieces - I forgot they were to be overlapped! Therefore, try to match the quilt lines for these two pieces ;-)
Sew slowly around the neck of the pattern
It's best to serge all the edges once the pieces have been quilted. Your cover will last longer, especially if it's frequently washed!
Tipps & Verfahrensweise (dies ist keine Anleitung)
Schnittmustererstellung: am einfachsten geht es wenn man die Flasche (ohne Bezug) auf ein Stück Papier legt und drumherum nachzeichnet
Anschließend mittig eine Linie ziehen
Auf nur einer Seite den Schnitt auf 3 cm vergrößern, Papier an der Mittellinie zur Hälfte falten und rund um die Form ausschneiden. Papier aufklappen.

Das vordere Teil wird aus zwei überlappenden Teilen genäht (Hotelverschluß) - mindestens 5 cm. Dies auf dem Schnitt markieren
Beim zusammensetzen des "Quilt Sandwich", darauf achten, dass das Vlies und Futter etwas größer als der Hauptstoff ist, denn beim Absteppen schrumpfen die Lagen etwas. Anschließend rundherum begradigen.

Beim Steppen der zwei vorderen Teile ist mir ein Fehler unterlaufen! Ich hatte vergessen, dass die zwei Teile später überlappen. Also, darauf achten, dass die Stepplinien zusammenpassen ;-)

Immer schön langsam um die engen Kurven am Flaschenhals nähen
Wenn möglich die fertig gesteppten Teile rundherum mit der Overlock ketteln. Der Bezug hält dann länger, besonders wenn er oft gewaschen wird!
