For quite a while now I've been wanting to try my hand at textile sculpture, but I was unsure as to which type of fabric would work best for this project. So when I received a bolt of organic cotton from Amy Butler's fabulous Alchemy collection I knew immediately that this fabric was perfect. It is thinner and softer than regular cotton, but not as thin or transparent as voile.

Schon lange wollte ich aus Stoff eine Art 3D-Effekt modellieren. "Textile sculpture" nennt man das auf Englisch. Als dann vor zwei Wochen der langersehnte Biobaumwollstoff aus Amy Butler's wunderschöner Alchemy Kollektion eingetroffen ist, wusste ich sofort: das ist er - dünner und weicher als normale Patchwork-Baumwolle, jedoch nicht so dünn oder transparent wie Voile.
I wanted to try this technique on a bag first before moving on to bigger projects. I chose my original ruffle pouch design for the shape, keeping in mind that I would require more fabric for the main panel. In the photo above you can see the sculpted part of the front panel.

Um diese Technik auszuprobieren habe ich mich für ein kleineres Projekt entschieden. Die Taschenform basiert auf meine von mir entworfene Ruffle Pouch, wobei für das vordere Panel wesentlich mehr Stoff benötigt wird. Im obigen Foto sieht man deutlich den gewünschten 3D-Effekt.
I matched the zipper colour to the tiny blue forget-me-nots on the fabric and embellished the front with a detachable flower brooch with a pink button matching the big pink rose. Overall I was going for a bohemian look. This photo was taken by me one-handed - talk about contorting my arms!

Die Farbe des RV habe ich passend zu den blauen Vergissmeinnicht auf dem Stoff ausgewählt. Zusätzlich habe ich eine abnehmbare Blumenbrosche gefertigt, dessen pinkfarbener Knopf die Farbe der großen Rose widerspiegelt. Dieses Bild ist nach mehreren Armverrenkungen einhändig entstanden ;-)
