Ricky Raccoon Rucksack

A while ago I received some new bag making supplies from leading German button and accessories manufacturer Union Knopf. I've been wanting to make a nifty little backpack, and had a great time choosing webbing, zippers and buckles. My backpack is adapted from one of talented Christine's designs. She has plenty more bag patterns to choose from in her Etsy shop.

Neulich habe ich von dem deutschen Knopf- und Accessoire Hersteller Union Knopf ein Paket mit diversen Gurtbändern, Reißverschlüssen, Schnallen, D-ringen und Karabinerhaken erhalten. Dies kam gerade recht, da ich schon länger vorhatte einen flotten kleinen Rucksack zu nähen. Das Schnittmuster, leicht abgeändert, stammt von der netten Christine. In ihrem Etsy shop. gibt es noch weitere Taschenschitte.

For my main fabric I chose this super cute raccoon print in aqua, lime and grey. I chose 2.5 cm wide cotton webbing for the straps and the loop at the top, and 2.5 cm nylon webbing for the side pockets and the loop on the inside. I haven't come across see-through buckles before, but thought they looked great on the side pockets. The large snap hook on the inside is meant to hold a keychain. I wasn't sure whether the plastic hook would withstand opening/closing a lot without breaking, but it is surprisingly durable. The nylon webbing is very flexible and the needle passes through it easily, but it is not as soft as the thicker cotton variety. I used matching teal snap buckles for the adjustable straps. The company provided zippers available by the meter. I chose the lime one and simply cut it to the size I required and attached the matching zipper pull. I like that the zipper pull had a large hole suitable for attaching a pretty ribbon or a charm. Overall I'm impressed by the range of colours from bold to neutral. Der Oberstoff meines Rucksacks ist dieser coole Waschbär Druck in Petrol, Limettengrün und Grau. Dazu passend habe ich das 2,5 cm breite Baumwollgurtband für die Schlaufe oben sowie die verstellbaren Bänder am Träger gewählt. Das gleiche Band gibt es auch in Nylon Qualität sowie in verschiedenen Breiten. Das 2,5 cm breite Band habe ich an den Seitentaschen und innen dekorativ zum Einsatz gebracht. Witzig finde ich die durchsichtigen Schnallen und Karabinerhaken. Der große Karabiner innen ist zum Befestigen des Schlüsselbundes gedacht. Ich war mir nicht sicher, ob der Kunststoffhaken das Auf- und Zuschnappen standhalten würde, jedoch ist er erstaunlich strapazierfähig. Das Nylongewebe ist sehr flexibel und läßt sich mit der Maschine leicht nähen, aber es ist nicht so weich wie das etwas dickere Gurtband aus Baumwolle. Sehr praktisch finde ich den Endlos-Reißverschluss der als Meterware erhältlich ist. So konnte ich meine Wunschlängen zurecht schneiden und anschließend den dazugehörigen Schieber daran befestigen. Die Reißverschlüsse gibt es in allen Farben des Regenbogens. Toll finde ich, dass der Schieber ein großes Loch hat. Daran läßt sich z.B. ein hübsches Band oder ein Charm befestigen. Mich beeindruckt besonders die Farbpalette der Produkte von Bunt bis Neutral. Und auch an der Qualität ist nichts auszusetzen. Möchtet Ihr mehr über die Produkte von Union Knopf erfahren? I'm pretty pleased with how the backpack turned out! Its compact size and multiple pockets inside and out makes it the perfect bag for a stroll through town, fitness class or a weekend trip! Speaking of trips, next week I'll be gone a few days, visiting friends and generally slowing down a little...I'll catch up with you by the end of next week, though!

Ich bin mit dem Ergebnis sehr zufrieden! Die kompakte Größe macht diesen Rucksack zum perfekten Begleiter für einen Stadtbummel, für's Fitnesscenter oder ein Wochenendtrip! Apropos Reise, nächste Woche bin auch ich ein paar Tage weg...bis dahin, macht's gut!
