Life Lately { July }

It's been ages since I've shared a "life lately" post! After a whirlwind of activity in the last couple of months I found myself in a bit of an emotional slump. Part of me is relieved that I have finally wrapped up my Mom's legal affairs. But I'm also acutely aware that I'm closing a whole chapter of my life. It fills me with a deep sadness that leaves me drained. I'm sure that anyone who has experienced the loss of a close relative can relate!

As a spiritual person I have taken steps to find my way back to my usual optimistic self. Apart from my daily gratitude practice I have rediscovered spiritual poetry by the 13th century Sufi mystic Rumi. I found the book among my mother's things and I remember we read it together years ago...
As I'm prone to reading several books simultaneously (yes, I'm a book nerd) I'm also currently enjoying Super Brain (see image above) and highly recommend it :)

The other day I went for a walk at a nearby lake, and afterwards had the most delicious vegetarian meal! I even got to enjoy eating it outdoors as the sun was out! The meal consisted of this creamy ricotta patty with fresh spinach and herbs wrapped in a thin crepe. Along with this there was a fresh side salad with a light yoghurt dressing. This wasn't just any plain old lettuce, this was gourmet salad. Best of all there was a serving of the most crispy sweet potato fries with a curry-chilli sauce on the side. Yum!!

At home I've been eating a lot of cherries. They seem to be sweeter this year :) I also devoted some time to working with essential oils - the workbook that I inherited from my Mom has a lot of useful handwritten notes in it. I also set some time aside to design at make some new shabby chic decor for my Etsy shop!

I received a fabric shipment! I know that doesn't sound like much to most, but to me it's super exciting :)

After slacking in the exercise department these last couple of months I am easing back into my regular Yoga routine. I'm also reading along / working with The Happiness Forecast Video + Blog Series. This project devised by Sophia (who is married to a friend of mine from Germany) helps achieve happiness regardless of our outer circumstances. I really love her authenticity and her hands-on approach.

I'm always on the lookout for original instagram feeds. By that I mean unique, not copied or following a formula. Although showing possibly the poorest regions of the world, I am hooked on the evocative and strong imagery of this amazing account besides loving what they accomplish! Makes me want to sign up and volunteer :)
Speaking of instagram...HUGE thanks to everyone following my new account @duni_studio_stoffe. I'm absolutely thrilled! Happy Tuesday.

  1. The veggie dish looks delicious! Sweet potato fries are my favorite side dish in a restaurant. Yummy. What a peaceful lake. Those little kitties are adorable. :) I should probably read Super Brain. Some days my brain just seems nutty. I am happy to hear you were able to wrap up on your mom's affairs. My dad is going through that right now after my grandfather's passing. There are so many details to work through.

  4. I can relate to the mixed emotions. Of course I didn't have to deal with finalizing my dads estate but just the adjusting to them not being around is hard enough.
I've been big on grilled vegies lately. Sooooo good

  5. Love the cute fabric kitties! Cherries are one of my very favorite fruits, but they obviously don't grow anywhere near my current home. I'm also big book nerd and have to check out the Super Brain book. It seems like something I'd enjoy.

  6. Good to hear your Mum's legal stuff is all taken care of. Must have provided some sort of closure and the rediscovery of Rumi through her may even be a sign from her :)
Eating outdoors in the sunshine is one of my favourite things to do, especially when it's a healthy, gourmet meal that makes you feel good from the inside out. Sweet potato is one of my fave veggies and cherries are a nice treat when they're in season.
The fabric shipment is very exciting! I love opening post packages and it's always a source of inspiration to get creative.
    Have a great week Duni!

  8. Duni, I felt the same way you did when my father passed away, and we had to settle his affairs. I am glad you are looking forward, however. Between healthy and tasty food, your uplifting reading, and yoga, I'm sure you're on the right path.

  11. It sounds as if you are making the right efforts to get back in the right frame of mine. A deep loss takes awhile to heal...and you should allow yourself plenty of time to be sad...and to heal. It will come. Things will get sunny again. I think buying more fabric should help as well. :)

  14. Duni, my heart goes out to you regarding your mother. I went through the same thing. It still hurts at times even though it's been years.
How awesome that you have your mother's essential oils book with her notes!
I love cherries, too! There's been a plethora of those in my life lately.
Oh, and I read several books at a time, as well!
Check out Wine to Water on Instagram. My daughter met the guy who wrote the book and started the organization.
