Monogram Jewelry & More // Onecklace

I recently received my very own 24k gold plated name necklace with Swarovski birthstone (Peridot - I'm an August baby) from my friends over at Onecklace. This is an international jewelry manufacturer that deals exclusively with customized jewelry such as: name necklaces, monogram necklaces, personalized nameplate pendants, rings and more!

My name necklace arrived in a cute jewelry box and included a certificate of authenticity. They offer 14K, 24K gold plated, Sterling Silver as well as 14K white gold. I thought the little flower with my birthstone in the center a cute idea! For my necklace I chose a 16 inch box chain - perfect for most of the tops I wear. It is light-weight and comfortable to wear :)
*

New at Onecklace are the ever popular engraved Arrow necklaces and currently very trendy "Twitter necklaces". I'm pretty sure you've come across these in fashion blogs or on instagram before! #TwitterNecklace

5 Casual Maxi Dresses

Summertime is officially starting tomorrow! Can you believe it? My regular readers will know that summer is my favourite season :) Now if only I could persuade the weather gods to match the temperatures to the season...
Anyhow, last year I made a three-tiered maxi skirt, which was a fun project. So this time around I'd like to try my hand at making my own maxi dress. I looked to Polyvore for inspiration:
*

5 casual maxi dresses for summer

1. corsage-style // Top Shop 2. nautical // The Dressing Room 3. tiered floral // Desigual via Yoox 4. ombre // Sundance Beach 5. tank top style // Only

Which style is your fave?

Monday Moodboard

Hi everybody!             Hallo Mädels!

It was very interesting to read the reactions to my post last Wednesday :) Sometimes, departing from one's usual path will lead to happy discoveries and positive outcomes. With this in mind I curated this moodboard depicting geometric shapes. Hope you like it!

From Men's Shirt to Girl's Skirt - DIY in Three Easy Steps

Hi everybody! Today I'd like to share another fun DIY idea that is easy enough for beginning sewists too! Give a regular men's buttondown shirt a new lease of life by turning it into a girl's summer skirt :) This will work best for young girls 8 - 10 years old. For tweens you might need a bigger/longer shirt :)

You'll need // Ihr braucht

1 regular cotton men's shirt // 1 standard Herrenhemd
2 cm wide elastic for waistband // 2 cm breites Elastikband
Minipompom trim // Minipompoms
novelty buttons // Kinderknöpfe
sewing machine & basic sewing kit // Nähma + Nähutensilien

For my project I chose these fun limegreen novelty buttons with tiny red mushrooms and hearts kindly sponsored by German button and accessories manufacturer Union Knopf. These are available in lavender and white as well. Click on the link below for more information on their products:

Step One // Schritt Eins

To make the skirt you'll require two measurements. Measure the girls waist and cut elastic minus 1 cm. Set aside. Measure from waist to knee plus 2.5 cm. Cut straight across the shirt. If there is a button or pocket in the way, remove as necessary.
*
Geradlinig abschneiden. Eventuell vorher Pattentaschen, oder störende Knöpfe entfernen.

Step Two // Schritt Zwei

To make the casing for the elastic, fold under first 0.5cm and iron, then fold again at 2.5 cm. Pin and edge-stitch all around leaving a 6 cm gap at one side seam. Then attach the minipompom trim to the hemline starting and ending at the front opening of the shirt. Now insert the elastic through the waistband gap, pull through until it comes out at the other side and overlap ends by 1 cm. Stitch across the overlapping part several times to secure. Finish waistband by closing gap. Iron skirt.
*

Step Three // Schritt Drei

Remove the original shirt buttons and replace with novelty buttons. It' doesn't matter if they are larger than the original, since they only serve as decoration! Your girl's summer skirt is finished and ready to wear :)
*

Dori, from the Yellow House tagged me to participate in the Monday Blog Tour! Thank you, Dori :)
She asked me answer the following four questions, so without further ado:

What am I working on?

After a long hiatus I am working on a new bag design, inspired by a whimsical fabric I received recently. Some of my readers may remember that I started my handmade business designing bags, but due to economic factors switched to designing lounge wear and accessories instead. The bag I'm currently working on will be a one-of-a-kind creation and can be purchased directly through me/this blog. Stay tuned...

How does my work differ from others in its genre?

I know there are plenty of handmade shops offering floral lounge wear, but I would say that I have developed a signature style that cannot be copied that easily. A lot of thought goes into each piece, choosing fabric combinations and adding feminine details. Consequently I don't produce en masse and that's my selling point for buyers who appreciate special and unique items.

Why do I write what I do?

Okay, at first I did not get this question, but then this tag is a blog tour so I guess this question refers to blogging :) I've been at it for six years. I love writing, especially tutorials. I believe in sharing ideas - and I've got tons of those :) There is a certain satisfaction of coming up with an idea, be it sewing, papercrafting or even a recipe, implementing it and subsequently sharing it with my fellow bloggers :)

How does my writing process work?

Well, as far as my tutorials go it really starts as a sketch and a few keywords. Once I finish the project I mentally go through the process again (sometimes twice) and write the instructions directly in a blog post. It helps to view the photos I made of the project. I'm a visual person. Sometimes it comes together quickly, other times it takes up to two hours to finish a post. Either way I really enjoy writing!

Check out Dori's post here!

This was so much fun, so I'd like to continue this blog tour by tagging Marieken of  Invisible Crown (@crowninvisible) and Val of Miss Val's Creations (@valscreations) to answer the four questions above by next Monday 16th! 5 Minute Make Up

Hello lovelies!          Hallo, ihr Lieben!

This has got to be my first ever beauty post in all my years of blogging. Possibly because my daily make up routine hasn't changed for the last two decades :) I realized I needed to replenish my make up while doing my eyes with a two inch stub of eyeliner. For years I've consciously chosen cruelty free make up products from my favourite UK brand The Body Shop. I thought this would be a great opportunity to show you my daily make up routine for busy ladies (only takes 5 min!) and at the same promoting great products that have not been tested on animals. More info on this topic close to my heart here. and here.
*

Now, without further ado here's my quick make up routine. Since I'm brunette I've chosen colours to complement my skin tone and eye colour, but The Body Shop offers plenty of other colours too!
*
Und nun zu meinem 5 Minuten Tages- Make Up.

Since I have very dry skin I love the Vitamin E series. The cleansing and moisturizing products have have a subtle, fresh smell and my skin feels smooth after. I was really pleased when they introduced the cool BB cream. It's a tinted moisturizer with Vitamin E. I'm not a big fan of slapping on cream make up, so this products fits the bill perfectly. A little goes a long way. I use a sponge to distribute it over my entire face including eyelids and lips. It goes on smoothly and looks natural.
*

After that I apply eyeshadow. ( please excuse the scary eye pictures) The Colour Crush range comes in many colours. I prefer "Brownie & Clyde". It's kind of a brown/grey shade that goes well with my eyes. I use a small brush to apply it over my entire lid. Once that is done I use the eye definer in black to rim my eyes and smudge the line with the little smudger on the end of the pencil. I also use this pencil to elongate my eyebrows. Next up - mascara. A must for my sparce eye lashes! Depending on my mood I either use the volume mascara or my new lengthening mascara in black. I apply two coats.

Almost done! I apply a coat of lipstick. I like creamy matte lipsticks best and prefer berry coloured shades. This one is called Berry in Love and is perfect for daytime wear. It goes on smoothly and is infused with a subtle rose scent.
*
Fast fertig!

And that, dear readers, was my 5 minute make up routine...now I'm ready to face the day :)
*

xoxo

Duni's Studio - one year later :)

Hi everybody!          Hallo Mädels!

Some of you might remember that I started my studio renovation over a year ago. I'm pleased to say that it's finally, well almost, completed!
*
Naja, fast.

In this post the main work, such as the new windows, shelving and big furniture pieces had been installed except for the partition I mentioned. A partition is necessary to divide my work space from the reading/TV area. After a bit of brainstorming I found a simple yet functional and budget friendly solution: sliding doors. These were installed a couple of days ago! I chose a white textured surface that would blend in well with the surrounding wall. The sliding door has a damper to ensure it closes softly against the wall. I posted a pic of the whole thing on Instagram, but it's a bit blurry as I was so excited :) Below you can see the sliding part. The other part is fixed.

Above you can see the fixed part of the door. Since it's right in front of my sewing area it lends itself perfectly to mood or swatch boards! Currently I only have one lone card up there, but I'm sure there will be more...
*

I'm basically all set. I really LOVE working in this room. In the cupboard above I keep the fabrics which I mostly use for my Peridot line. There are lots more behind the closed doors :) The only thing that is still missing is a flatweave rug. Even after a whole year of searching I haven't been successful - either they are too expensive or ugly. So, if any of you know where I can find a rectangular rug in a neutral colour - perhaps with a stripey pattern - at a reasonable price, please let me know!!
*
Eventuell online? Bin für jeden Tipp dankbar!!

Thanks for reading along - have a beautiful day!

Monday Moodboard

As my Etsy teammate Edi pointed out June has three birthstones! Of the three my favourite is the moonstone. There is something mysterious - hence the moon photo in my collage today - about the pearly sheen with its luminous blue, yellow or pink interior that I love. I found these lovely pieces on Etsy.
*
