Retro Homespun Summer Outfit

Last summer I shared how to make retro homespun cards and boxes. This year I made a cute summer outfit that has a wonderful homespun feel to it. These novelty shorts and customized top remind me of carefree summers ages ago...of spending whole days at the beach and coming home with a little bucket full of shells and sunburned shoulders. Happy times!
As it happens, the July challenge brought to us by my wonderful Etsy teammate Sarah Beth is all about fun summer holidays...wearing this outfit brings back happy memories spent in sunnier climes - and as luck would have it we're currently experiencing almost tropical temperatures. I couldn't be more pleased :) Thank you so much, Sarah, for coming up with this fun challenge, giving me the opportunity to design a new summer outfit!

What is especially exciting about this project is that I got to collaborate with another wonderful teammate Edi. In fact I came up with this new pair of roll up shorts when I heard that Edi was going to stock cute little buttons in her Etsy shop!

Edi was so kind to send me adorable heart shaped buttons - two large and two small! Edi stocks all kinds of button shapes from traditional circles to owIs, stars and many more! I used the small heart buttons as centers for these frayed-on-purpose flowers which I attached to the top :)
Eulen, Sterne, Herzen, mit Gravur u.v.m. selbst her!

A new feature is the side seam pocket as seen in the left photo. I attached the large heart buttons on each side on the roll-up hem. Does it get any cuter? I love this look!  Thanks again Edi :)

Happy Summer!
