A Nostalgic Tea Party

Hi friends!       Hallo Freunde!

It has taken me longer than usual to complete this admittedly elaborate tutorial. I was aiming for a nostalgic mood and had to get the look and ambience just so.  There are three projects combined in this tutorial - all simple, all done with minimum expense -  and suitable for those just starting out with sewing!
*

pink polkadot wallpaper found on Ebay / rosa Püncktchentapete bei Ebay gefunden

Throughout this tutorial I have used natural linen of which I still had a lot of yardage left as well as fabric scraps in a candy pink colour theme. No party is complete without bunting in my opinion, so that's what we are starting off with!
*

Start by choosing a bold font on your computer and type out the word PARTY. One letter per page. Print out, then cut out. On the wrong side of the pink fabric iron a piece of double sided fusible web. Trace each letter (remember to flip the letters over), cut out and iron the pink fabric letters onto linen triangles that are large enough to fit each letter.  I used pinking shears to cut them out.
*
Once you have completed the entire word, arrange in a row and attach pink bias binding to the top edge. Run through sewing machine using a simple straight stitch. Make sure that there is enough bias tape left at each end for hanging up. I added some heart appliques just for fun!
*
Ich habe noch Herzen appliziert - just for fun!

After finishing the bunting, you might want to take a break and eat cake :)
*

Next up are handmade linen napkin holders!
*

Cut equal numbers of rectangles about 8 " x  2.5 ". Interface one side of each pair. Use light-weight interfacing. Cut vintage lace about half an inch shorter than rectangles. Lay linen pieces right sides together with interfaced pieces catching the lace inbetween. Stich down both long sides and one short side. Turn through open short side, fold edge under and stitch closed. Iron flat. Cut small pieces of velcro tape and sew to short ends, remembering to overlap one side. Embellish with pink crochet flower!

Don't forget gifting your guests with little favors such as miniature jams or honey. Decorate the tops with little fabric covers cut out from scraps and tie with kitchen twine. Cut the rounds of fabric 1.5 inches larger than the lids. Place in cute handmade paper bags and decorate with labels.
*

Congrats, if you have made it this far! And even if you don't sew, at least I hope you enjoyed my images! I had a lot of fun making these things and for a little while felt tranported to a more nostalgic era...

Enjoy!
