After being stuck in the hotel for three days due to the typhoon, my husband and I decided we deserved a little retail therapy...We were looking for some homewear, i.e. basic Tee's, poloshirts, hoodies, sweatpants - our usual garb when we're not working, when we came across Tokyo-based fashion retailer
UNIQLO.

I was immediately drawn to the stores' neat and colour co-ordinated display. Rows and rows of shirts, cardigans, sweaters, pants, jeans, blouses, shirts, dresses and accessories for men, women and kids at very reasonable prices.
As for the quality? Do not fear. These pieces are amazing my trained eye told me straight away. Further inspection confirmed that the items were indeed well-made inside and out. I bought a hoodie in the softest light-weight cotton imaginable. Yesterday I put that, along with a couple of polo shirts, in the wash - they come out perfectly; no distortion of shape or loss of colour. The lovely soft touch of my hoodie remained even after a spin in the dryer. I'm really happy with my purchases.
I was informed the company is working on setting up an online store, which would be great, because presently the only (continental) European store is in France. People in the UK are spoiled for choice with several stores in and around London. Apparently there's a store in the US too. Keep in mind though that prices will differ from those in Asia, adjusting to the market the store is located in.
We also came across a store that sold sporting goods where hubby and I each bought a pair of 'All Star' Converse sport shoes for less than half the price we would normally have to pay here in Germany! Hubby's shoes are a 'Metallica' special edition; mine are pink, what else?

Shopping in Asia is the best part, I used to love just walking in and out of Japanese shops like Seibu in Hong Kong. I see underneath the post there, and the painting of that sailboat is very familiair to me, along with the beautiful skyline. Hope the typhoon leaves soon, the aftermath always leads to rainy days too.

But, omg...that Tokyo store looks like its every females dream come true!
is this marked better than benetton ?
A blast from the past! I remember Benetton stores back home many, many years ago. And, yes, retail therapy can cure so many things.:)
I can see how walking into a store like that would be wonderful retail therapy! It looks like you walked into a rainbow!
I just want to say hello Duni. I hope all is well with you and your family.
God bless,
Jodi
Hello Duni,
I went to Hong Kong for my last vacation and bought couple of Uniqlo including the hoodie like in your picture but different color, how funny is that :)
You should try MUJI too. This is also Japenese based fashion retailer. I think you will like it too, but the price little bit higher than Uniqlo.
Oh wow...this looks like a great store :)

I used to wear Converse all the time. I had a red pair, a blue pair, and a red/green plaid pair (for holidays). Somewhere I think I have a photo of me in the plaid...now I'm going to have to dig it out.
Thanks for the comment. I am catching up on your blog as well, since I had not visited in a while. Glad you had a safe trip and got some good fabric for making your wonderful projects.
